Travel Tips for Helen
Compact little town

This little town of about 500 permanent residents sits in a very beautiful part of Georgia. It is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains (about 4000 feet elevation) and the town itself straddles the Chattahoochee which in some ways is the life blood of millions of Georgians as it provides water to most of metro Atlanta. Transportation in Helen is not a big issue as you will likely only get there by car. Also, virtually everything you want to see or do in the town is along or very near the main highway through the middle of town which is probably not more than 2 miles from end to end.
The Chattahoochee River

The Chattahoochee River runs right through town which give the town some extra activities for the younger folks. At any given time while walking over the bridge into town, people are climbing on the rocks, wading in the water, playing with their dogs. So you may what to bring a change of clothes.
hot air balloon race

in june of each year helen hosts the helen to the atlantic hot air balloon race and festival. the balloon race begins in downtown helen and the first balloon to cross I-95 to the east wins the race. there is a hot air balloon festival following the race for a couple of days. see the attached web site for dates and festival information.
A European Dining Experience!!

5 stars is not enough. Everything at the Edelweiss is absolutely wonderful. It is an authentic German Gasthaus. They have rooms and cabins and the "ONLY" real German restruant in Helen. You will think you are dining in Europe. The food is a authentic as it gets.
Not only is is a restruant and accomodations, it is also a meat market. They make all of their meats - in house. YOu can purchase some to take home with you. The Ziegunerschnitzle is absoutly fabulous. Loosly translated it means the farmer's schnitzle. They put all the vegtable on this pork cutlet with a wonderful gravy!!
The wurst is excellent. They make it for most of the restruants in town.
The Edelweiss Inn and...

The Edelweiss Inn and Restaurant. It has a great view and fantastic German Beer. Great place to sip on an brew. There's also the Hansel and Gretel Candy Kitchen where you can see prepare the fudge for thier wonderful candies. Gabriella's favorite shop.
