Helen, GA ( Loved Helen, but not the Helendorf!)
I stayed at The Helendorf River Inn and was mad
VERY sick! We stayed in one of the rooms (204)
with a fireplace and after burning a fire for several
hours my husband and I went to bed. I woke up at
2:30 A.M. ( to use the restroom) to a room FILLED
with smoke! The smoke detectors NEVER WENT OFF!!!!!
We had to open the front door and balcony door to get
the smoke out. After that my husband checked the fireplace
and the vent had closed somehow in the middle of the night!!!
Me and my husband had breathing problems for several
days afterwards. I did call the hotel to try to have
them correct the problem in room 204. I hope they did,
but after the rude way I was treated over the phone I
do not know! I will also try to contact the fire department
because I do not want anyone else to ever have to go though this!!!

Bring your own smoke detectors!!

Old Time Accomodation in the Alpine
We did not stay here, but some time ago, a friend said it was a good place to stay. It is a bit out of the way of the traffic in town, and more quite, and clean
Unique Quality: At the edge of town you can walk into town, or return if you have over indulged. It looks like a clean place, and more quite than some others closer in.

helendorf hotel
the helendorf hotel and convention center is located in the heart of the alpine village of helen georgia. most of the tourist sites in helen are a short walk from the hotel. since parking is at a premium during oktoberfest and other helen events it is excellent place to stay. the rooms are spartan but have all the amenities of a chain motel. during special events the room price is about $80 but in the off season the rates are considerably less. because of it's excellent location i would recomend it.
