Boiled Peanuts-Cheerwine-trailer homes-old cars
by BruceDunning
There are a lot of traditions in the South, and many centered from Georgia. They have the boiled peanuts up in the hill country, and also Cheerwine is a staple. All around are little old homes converted into antique shops. These proprietors go around the region and buy up old and unique items from the families.
Another interesting site is the mobilehome trailers that are set up on little patches of ground, but then many have abandoned cars, some from the early 1960's and on. This is part of the heritage, and something to observe. The people are genuine and friendly, but do want to stick to their traditions and stay close to home, and down to the convenience store for items.
For the visitor to Alpine...
by AlpineHelen
For the visitor to Alpine Helen, it is absolutely mandatory to visit Alt Heidelberg's for some authentic Bavarian food. Heidelberg's specializes in Sauerbraten (Sour Roast Beef), Sauerkraut & Bratwurst (Sour Kraut & Sausages), Kassler Kottlets (Smoked Pork Chops) and an all time favorite: Käsespätzle (Spätzle noodles covered in Apline (Swiss) Cheese and Fresh Mushrooms). From June until October the visitor to Alt Heidelberg's Restaurant & Lounge can enjoy a live Polka band on Friday and Saturday nights and a strolling accordianist on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Ice cream only
by rexvaughan about Scoop de Scoop Ice Cream
This little shop is adjacent to the Alpine Golf mini course and is ice cream only. No sandwiches or other snacks although I am sure you can get milkshakes and some softdrinks. They serve Mayfield brand ice cream which, while not gormet, is very tasty.
If you play mini golf next door, they give you a 10% discount. They have probaly 15 or 20 flavors including one of my favorites which you can't get everywhere - black walnut. They also offer 3 kinds of cones including my favorite, waffle cones.
