Horrible Experiece at Oceanside Inn & Suites
If you want to enjoy yourself and have a nice vacation, I would highly recommend you not staying at this hotel. We had a horrible experience here. First off, the hotel itself looked nothing like the photos on the website and neither did the rooms. The room smelled disgusting, the bathroom was dirty with dead bugs on the light fixture, and the toilet would not flush. The bathroom was also so small that my husband and I could not even be in there at the same time, also the fan did not work so it was smothering hot.
Now to talk a little about the staff at the hotel. They are not about customer satisfaction at all. We told them the internet and the phone did not work and they just recommended we use the internet in the lobby, which defeats the purpose of getting free internet.
Last but not least, My husband and I came here to Jekyll Island because he was doing business down here and with the hassle of the hotel, we ended up changing hotels after one night there. They even tried to charge us a cancellation fee! Our true vacation did not start until the next day when we were out of that hotel. I cannot stress how nasty the place was and the staff. The hotel did not meet our expectations and we were not satisfied.
You might want to think twice before staying at this hotel.
This is a great hotel. Staff is very friendly and the jacuzzi suites are perfect for a couple of romantics like me and my hubby! I would highly recommend this hotel!
More about Oceanside Inn and Suites
My wife and I rode down to Jekyll for a little weekend getaway during her break from teaching. While checking in we were very impressed. The staff at the front desk was very nice, helpful, etc. and the environment inside seemed very comfortable. We had requested a non-smoking room, but upon entering the room we were overcome with the smell of past smokers. It might not have been from people smoking in the actual room because there were people smoking outside when we came through and we noticed multiple "butts" on the ground. Oddly enough though, there was an ashtray inside the room. Go figure. The beach was right outside our door, but the pool was on the other end of the hotel, which is not a bad walk unless you are really wanting to get in the water in a hurry. Our bathroom was not in the best of shape and it was small. The first day our room was to be cleaned, the house cleaner(s) did not arrive until 4:15. All-in-all, the staff was extremely friendly, our room was below average, and the resort as a whole was probably above average.
No frills basic beach hotel. Its location is great, directly on the oceanfront. It has large grassy areas. The rooms are dingy, but are as clean as can be expected for a beach hotel. The staff is friendly. We did not see many housekeeping employees present during our stay In fact, we had to ask for new sheets and towels daily. They were prompt about bringing these items to us. We chose this hotel because they take dogs. The hotel and beach is very dog friendy. Don't stay at this hotel if you prefer upscale accomodations.
Unrealized Potential in Great Location
Good: Price decent for Great Location but not hotel quality. Staff encounters very helpful & friendly-responded promptly to needs. Able to aquire last minute reservation from Georgia Welcome Center-desk staff very helpful. Had no previous knowledge of this hotel, but brochure was professional and looked nice.
Bad: Room dark, smelly, somewhat dirty. Shower leaking constantly. Refrigerator unplugged on arrival, when working dampened the carpet and felt "yucky" to walk on, carpet ragged & dingy at entries. Stayed in efficiency-poorly stocked with dishes, only 1 fork, no other silverware, one coffee cup, other odds & ends of dishes. No dishtowels, 3 towels, but only 2 washcloths, no handtowels-towel man did respond promptly when requested. "Kitchen" counter dirty-towel grey after cleaning. Stove door very old-would not shut properly. Microwave readout "broken" and unable to read incomplete LED . Mirrors obviously dirty. One bedspread had large coffee colored area on underside which was hopefully stained & not dirty. One hanger in closet.
Constant Whistling or buzzing sound through island side window, very annoying. Patio furniture dingy, one chair cushion torn, table had large burn hole in top with 4 can tabs on top-obviously had not been cleaned since at least last occupants. Spider webs in oceanfront sliding door. Grounds in need of Round Up Spray-very neglected looking.
This motel would be such a good place to stay due to its location, but I would never stay her again until fully renovated because it did not feel clean. Whole place needed some tender loving care by a diligent owner/management. Despite the old, broken items-such as appliances and other cosmetic things that needed renovation, if the room had been cleaned & prepared for guests by having the right amount of towels, dishes/silverware, disposables that one would expect in an efficiency it would have helped me overlook the obvious "old" appearance of the motel and I would have left with the impression of an old, but well-cared for place.
Great location --- Not great deal
I agree with other reviewer --- Jekyll is absolutely beautiful and has such tremendous potential, but it lacks in so many areas. This hotel has a fabulous location and great beach access, but it isn't worth the price. We would not pay more than $50 a night --- and we actually paid $103 on Priceline!!! Rooms are OLD. Redone beds and very nice sheets and spreads are great, but carpet is old, worn. Room is big --- came with nice size fridge and microwave, but bathroom is awful! The tile is like outdoor rough tile and it was dirty. The shower was missing the knob on the cold tap and the water had very little pressure. Our room was last on the end AWAY from the pool --- so we drove to it (two small kids). The staff is not exactly friendly. The only way to get to the pool is through the lobby (no side entrace near pool). The staff told us they did not want us walking through the lobby in wet suits (this was when we were first coming through --- dry)! And there are no bathroom facilities at the pool --- other than the lobby. And those are horrible!!! One stall, and it has no air --- and it wasn't clean! The pool itself is nice --- but the wooden deck is badly in need of repairs. It's very weather-worn. Furnishings by the pool are decent. The hot tub was strange --- filled with ocean water and sand??? It just doesn't look sanitary. Main issue with pool was it needs to be heated. It was about 50 degrees in the water --- like ice. Overall, not a horrible stay --- just not worth the money charged. And it's just a shame Jekyll hotel merchants don't take more pride in the hotels.
Roaches & Illegal Drug Deals
Although Jekyll is a fantastic island getaway - Don't select Oceanside Inn as your hotel! We were so unhappy we moved to another hotel the next morning. The hotel has not been updated in years, has roaches in the bathroom, and strange people hanging out in the parking lot after dark looking like drug dealers. Not worth the money.
We moved to the Beachview hotel and it was excellent, clean, and actually cost us less than the horrible Oceanside.
Beautiful view, average room
We stayed at this hotel when it was the Comfort Inn and just restored a couple of years ago and it was bit nicer than it is now. I can see the rooms are ran down a bit and very much like a cheap budget hotel room. We payed 100 bucks a night but the view was incredible and we were just steps from a nearly secluded beach. It was fine for one night but next time we come down I think we'll stay somewhere a bit nicer.
This place was an overcharge from the get go. We were so disappointed when we arrived. The room smelled, there were no coffee cups, silverware or any thing as such. We were going to walk across the grass to the ocean and it was full of cactus. The flat king that cannot be seen for the grass. It was horrible. We cacelled outr reservations and moved to St. Simons Island, which was great
We decided to take a long weekend to Jekyll and this was the only place that had accomodations left. I called the front desk and inquired about the rooms and they were so very friendly and helpful. They said they had put me in a room that had been partially renovated. I realize that all hotels on the island are older because of the halt on new constructions.
When we got there, the front desk people remembered me and greeted me by name. The room was a great lay out as it had a full size refrigerator, stove and microwave and a divided living area. It seemed clean and the furnishings were in good shape. The towels were thick and the maids were not stingy with them. Maid service overall was fair. They didn't seem to really clean the rooms well during the stay, altho they did make the beds and vacuum. They didn't clean the glass door and things of that nature. The view from the room was great and it was such a family friendly place. The kids made many friends and they played together in the lawn overlooking the ocean.
The main complaint I had with the place is the grounds. The landscaping looked as it hadn't been kept up in years. There were weeds in the beds and growing out of the bushes, etc. It baffled me how they had let it go, it seems a little maintenance and work would improve it so much. The pool area was nice but we noticed several times it looked as if the water needed cleaned. Most of the outside showers didn't work and that might had been while the water looked dirty. One of the people in our party was bitten by a spider and they said to let them know if it began to swell. We did see several other spsiders and bugs so it could use an extermination.
Ocean side Inn and Suites was good in many respects and the major plus was the view and the friendly maids and staff. The lady at the front desk said they were going to do a major renovation after summer. Hopefully, that will make it better all the way around. I would stay there again. The room seemed clean , there was no mold or mildew present and the carpet and tiles in good shape. The couch, chairs and comforters were all clean with no spots. The patio furniture could have been in better shape. We were not displeased with our stay but feel the management could have made it better with a few changes. We had a great time on our weekend vacation.
