Discount Lodging Coupons
We travel from Ontario Canada to Florida quite often by car and have always pre-arranged reservations through our Automobile Association (CAA or AAA). This past Christmas, without reservations, on the busiest travel days, we discovered the free travel coupon magazines along the U.S. Interstates with much better discounts and with no problems whatsoever finding quality motels with available rooms.
The FREE magazines are available at truck stops and at some gas stations in the major travel plazas. The visitor welcome centers (rest areas as you enter different states) are your best bet.
All major and local motel chains are represented, and the guides inform on restaurants and motel choices at each exit.
An example: AAA rate for 2-dbl bed room at Red Roof Inn or Econolodge would be @ $55 USD with AAA discount - travel coupon offered same for $40 with free continental breakfast.
Offerings varied depending on location, for example we stayed at Super 8's and some had in-room coffee and fridge, and others were bare-bones service, for the same price.
And, as mentioned earlier, on the busiest travel days (i.e. Friday and Saturday before Christmas) we had no problem with availability. Motels listed:
