Travel Tips for Marietta

Pizzas, salads, subs, and more

by dustmon about Marietta Pizza Co.

I am not a huge pizza fan, but Marietta Pizza has other stuff that is worth checking out. Sold by the slice or by the pie, their pizzas are said to be incredible, including Vegi, Hawaiian, and white pizzas, as well as Strombolis and Calzones. The salads are huge and delicious, including Greek, Caesar and Blue Cheese. Beer and Wine is also served.

Good breakfast, coffee

by dustmon about Chick Fil A

This ChickFilA is right near I75 at Windy Hill and good to get b-fast before getting on the expressway in the morning. They have a really good roast coffee, and fairly good biscuit, I ask for mine to be well done, cause sometimes they under-do them. Of course they are famous for their chicken biscuit and sandwich which are good from time to time. bacon, egg and cheese biscuit, well done, and a coffee

"marietta"

marietta is located near I-75 twenty miles northwest of atlanta. marietta is the county seat of cobb county georgia. the area around present day marietta was settled in 1824. the town was established in 1834 and in 1837 is was named after judge thomas cobb's wife marietta. up to the outbreak of the civil war marietta was railroad stop and a cotton market town. on july 12 th 1863 james andrews and several union solders in civilian clothing boarded a train being pulled by the steam engine the "general". in near by kenesaw andrews and his group hijacked the engine and started what was to be known as the great locomotive chase. in july 1864 the forces of union general william t. sherman attacked the forces of general joseph johnson. sherman won the battle of marietta and later ordered general hugh kilpatrick to burn the town. it took decades for marietta to recover from this attack and it was well into the 1890's when many of it's homes and buildings were replaced. today marietta is part of the greater atlanta urban sprawl.
of interest to the tourist is the marietta history museum and a number of civil war sites in and around downtown marietta. marietta square downtown has a number of excellent restaurants and bars. marietta is a very nice part of greater atlanta and is worth a stop when in the atlanta area.
