"mcdonough"
mcdonough is located just east of I-75 south of atlanta georgia. the town of mcdonough was founded in 1823 and is named after commodore thomas mac donough. fortunately for the beautiful homes and buildings of mcdonough the town was by passed by william t. sherman's troops during the civil war. the most significant historic event in the town was the 1900 great train wreak which killed 35 people. today mcdonough is on the southern edge of the atlanta urban sprawl. of interest to the tourist is mcdonough's downtown historic district and a excellent collection of antebellum and post civil war era homes.
