Hot summers, mild winters
by fa330
The South is known for sweltering summer temps, and Newnan is no exception. Average summertime highs are 85-95 degrees, including humidity. Thunderstorms have a way of coming out of nowhere as well. In contrast, the winters are actually pleasant here, with average temps in the 50s during the day. Winter nights can get a little frosty, about 30-40 degrees.
You'll Be Surprised Who's Been in Newnan

Alan Jackson grew up here. Erskine Caldwell and Lewis Grizzard lived in the nearby town of Moreland. Minnie Pearl spent time early in her performing career at Dunaway Gardens a few miles outside Newnan. This place has connections!
(Added 18 August 2005) -- I've just learned, after living here nearly six years, that Newnan even has an Alaska connection. Jefferson Randolph "Soapy" Smith, a swindler notorious for his doings in Skagway during the Klondike Gold Rush, was born here in 1860.
