Visit Callaway Gardens
by no1birdlady
This is a beautiful area of gardens. There are many trails here that you can walk to see the different flower disiplays. It is especially spectacular during spring when the Azaleas and Dogwoods are at their peak. But there are also interesting things to see all year. I really like Mr. Cason's Garden. It shows vegetables which grow here and this is also where the PBS show Victory Garden is filmed.
You Need to Know Where to Stay
by TripAdvisor Member larsonll
I've been visiting Callaway for over 15 years, now. I do not disagree with some of the negative comments above, but that aside, you have to know where to stay when you go. I would not stay in the Inn. Several rooms are musty and the hotel is downright old. The new lodge is wonderful, yet pricey. We love the villas when we have family with us. I cannot comment on the cottages since I have yet to stay in one.
So, with Callaway, you really do get what you pay for; I would recommend shelling out the extra bucks to stay in the lodge or the villas if you want an enjoyable time.
Finally, I would not go into the experience expecting excellent service. The staff just seems slow and do not provide the level of service you would expect at these prices. It is a shame considering how excellent service would go far to turn around many of Callaway's problems. However, the beauty of gardens just can't be matched, which is the reason to go!
Very Stately Decorated Lodge

We stayed at the lodge earlier this month and had a nice time. The lodge is well done and a much improvement to the Mountain Inn (at least from the looks of the motel-like Mountain Inn). The rooms were nicely stated and the bathroom was exquisite with a separate tub and shower. The front staff was very nice and attentive. We had booked a king sized bed but were initially given a room with two double beds. We called the front desk and they got us a new room within 10 minutes.
Other Pluses:
1) They don't nickel and dime you like most "resort" places do. They give you free valet parking and free wireless internet. Instead of an expensive minibar in the room, they just give you a small refrigerator that you can use to store your own drinks in.
2) Very quite rooms. Couldn't hear a peep from the neighboring rooms. The rooms must have very thick walls since we couldn't even pick up our cell phone service in the rooms. However, walking out onto our balcony, we had 4-5 bars on our cell phone.
Minuses:
1) The valet staff was a bit rough around the edges for a "resort" staff. We arrived in the rain. When we wanted to check-in and didn't want the bellhop to take our bags, they told us to move our car out of the covered area because they had a tour group that needed to load their bus. It left us taking our luggage out in the rain. This should never happen at any hotel that cost $200+/night.
2) The food staff at the Piedmont restaurant also was rough around the edges as well. They were the quality of a chain restaurant staff (e.g., O'Charley's, Ruby Tuesdays) but they were serving $20-30 per dish food. They were pleasant and attentive though.
3) We didn't use the free valet service since it was easier to park. The valet service would be useful during the peak months since the parking lot doesn't have many places to park up close to the lodge. However, at times when we were leaving, there was no attendant there to get your car if you needed it. (This may change if they have more people using the valet service, but it is something to note.)
The Lodge is Great

The lodge is expensive but worth the extra $$. It was clean, the rooms are spacious and well decorated to fit the environment and the beds are large and comfortable. The bathrooms are picture perfect and the view was nice. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The pool is large and heated during cold months. Did not have time to visit the spa but will make plans for the future. Recomended.
