Travel Tips for Saint Simons Island

Brunswick stew evidently originated in this area. At least the pot in the photo purports to be the vessel in which it was first cooked over 100 years ago. Good Brunswick Stew is hard to find, but there are a few places here that make a decent attempt. It is a hearty soup/stew with pork, chicken, maybe some beef and/or rabbit, tomatoes, corn, onions, green pepper and lima beans. Like many traditional recipes there are many variations but it is a delicious accompaniment to Bar B Que.and is really best with southern cornbread. The best on earth comes from Harold's Barbeque in Atlanta or from my wife.

cassina garden club houses

pictured is one of two slave quarters on the site of the james hamilton plantation. located on gascoigne bluff. the hamiltion plantation was developed in 1793. in 1931 these houses were given to the cassina garden club. these tabby houses are listed on the national register of historic places. an interesting site to visit to see a relic of georgia's pre civil war past.
