September in Savannah

by kayrosek

My husband and I are considering Savannah for a anniversary trip, but since our anniversary is in September I wondered if it would be a good time to go there. Can anyone tell me?

Sure, why not? The weather will still be on the hot side, and there will still be a lot of people, but not overcrowded. Savannah is great most of the year.

Savannah is a great place to go, any time of the year. Sure, it's on the east coast and Sept is smack dab in the hurricane season, but I often end up on the coast during this time. In the past 7 trips, I only had to cancel and re-schedule once- not because of the hurricane, but because the hotel where the conference was to be held had been flooded days earlier, and they needed another week to get it back in order. That was in Virginia Beach, not Savannah!

Great time of the year, hurricanes are almost nonexistant here. Still warm, water temp is warm still. July is our hottest month with plenty of humidity.

Travel Tips for Savannah

Melt in your mouth pralines!

by rexvaughan

I never make a trip to Savannah without finding some of the wonderful pralines which are a Southern treat that I think actually has French origins. It is brown sugar, butter and pecans - how could you beat that combination?? You can find them several places, but I like Savannah Candy Kitchen which has locations at River Street and City Market. They also have delicious chocolate fudge and other sweets and nut treats to tempt you. Indulge! Pralines -I have even asked friends who went to Savannah to bring me some back - some did!

Savannah Port

by cobrioc

Savannah's port has always been a significant part of the city's economy, transporting timber and other resources to England in its earliest days.
Savannah once served as a prime shipping avenue for New World goods bound for Europe.
Today, Savannah has the largest foreign commerce port on the South Atlantic Coast.

Packing List

by b1bob

It can be hot and humid in the summer. Savannah winters are milder than in many places in the U.S. , so pack accordingly. Given Savannah's proximity to the waterfront, mosquito repellent would be a good idea. A good camera like the one pictured and, for goodness sakes, take more photos than my parents did when we went.

Bonaventure Cemetery easily...

by richiecdisc

Bonaventure Cemetery easily reached by driving out Wheaton Street to Bonaventure road which leads to Tybee Island. It's the final resting place for many of Savannah most renowned citizens and the massive moss-drapped oaks provide some shade for the elegant headstones.

It's easy to get to Savannah

by fa330

Interstate 16 goes right into downtown Savannah.
If you have a map, it's very easy to get around here. Even better, park your car and walk! Everything is close together and walking is the best way to see the historic district.
