Cab Fare

by herussell

Hello. My fiance and I will be going to Savannah the end of September for our honeymoon. Just curious about how are the taxi services are priced priced. I've heard it's not a good idea to drive through Savannah due to narrow roads and car break-ins, so about how much would it cost us to say, get a ride down from Hilton Head? Or even Pooler or Garden City??

Any other direct advice for Savannah in Fall would be much appreciated.
=)

I am not sure where you got info about not driving into Savannah but I have driven there several times. The streets may be narrower than larger cities but I had no trouble on them. I don't know about car break-ins but have parked near River Street and various places in that area for several hours at a time with no problem. If you are staying in Savannah your hotel will probably have parking. If not, I would drive in and park being mindful of where I was. My guess is that a cab from Hilton Head would cost a fortune. Pooler of Garden City are close enough in to consider a taxi but personally I would drive. Maybe there are parts of Savannah that are high risk for car break-ins but I doubt you would be spending much time in those areas anyway.

There is quite a bit of good info on this site about Savannah. Just do a deatination search on Savannah and you will get a page of links to various things here.

Sav to Garden City $12.00 Airport/pooler $40.00 - $50.00. If your in Savannah for the historic value of Savannah you will not need a car. Anything outside Sav you will. There are plenty of trollys & buses. Don't be walking around at night after 9pm in Sept.

Travel Tips for Savannah

Savannah visitors center......

by ferdnbean

Savannah visitors center... will help you gain an accurate overview of the historical attractions that Savannah is loaded with.
Other areas of interest are the river district(that's what I'll call it) that has a lot of interesting museums, shops, resterantsand pubs. Some very unique shops in the area as well as the usual traps. The riverwalk atmosphere is nice, but the waterfront view of the other side of the Savannah River is not a scenic photo op.

Dueling Pianos are So Much Fun!

by OCNJBritt about Savannah Smiles Piano Bar

If you have ever been to a dueling piano bar, you know why they are so much fun...it is a true crowd pleaser. My friends and I were wowed by the dueling pianos at Savannah Smiles. The premise, for those who are unfamiliar, is that the audience writes song titles on napkins, walks their requests on stage to the pianists and slips a few bucks in to hear their song get played. But this is no "Ebony and Ivory"...$5 to hear Springsteen may only get you a stanza before somebody else slips $10 to hear Ella.
The two pianists are such talented musicians and singers and comedians...
With the Army/Navy rivalry in Savannah, you can be sure that you'll have a rowdy young military crowd in the audience hooting and hollering (and paying big bucks) for Army Battlecries and Navy Ballads. I don't recall there being a specific dress code, but it is an evening out and you may want to dress up a bit...something I would recommend doing for any outing in Savannah.

Suck Me, Shuck Me, Eat Me Raw!

by April1985 about Bernie's Oysters on River Street

When I saw the T-shirt hanging from the window, I knew this was the place I had to eat (when you look at the picture , you will understand ). I dont like clams however, I actualy ended up eating some fried shrimp, which was rather tasty. We went for lunch, so we didnt eat much. My mom had gotten crab cakes I believe. It was a treat, and I got a sweet t-shirt out of it too ! ( of course for $19.99 .. but it was SO worth it) I fried fish, my mom had the crab cakes. But i bet their oysters are out of this world!
