Savannah has lots of things to offer from night life, resturants, relaxed living, beautiful architecture, beach close by and much much more. the things to look out for are crime and dont be fooled by its charm. not to scare you away but really look at where you are going to live there are alot of transitional neighboorhoods. i have lived downtown, victorian, and mid-town. by far i love midtown. it is close to everything and also provided privicy and less crime. i am responding and also letting you know my husband has been relocated and we have to move. our house is for sell in a great neighborhood called Kensington Park that could be a good fit for you. its a 3 bedroom offering lots of southern charm and location. please contact me at robinm23@hotmail.com and i can send more info and pixs.
thanks,
robin

Travel Tips for Savannah

Savannah Scene

by cobrioc

Savannah is rich in architectural splendor, natural beauty and old-fashioned Southern charm. The nation's most unique cities.

General Oglethorpe created a modern city in the heart of the Georgia wilderness.
Savannah unique city plan, features an ingenious system of squares, which are really miniature parks that serve as an organizing system for the historic district.
Houses, churches and business surround each square. Savannah has 23 district squares across the historic district, each of which has its own charm, style and personality.

African American

by cobrioc

The African American Monument was erected on Rousakis Plaza/River Street on July 27, 2002. The monument is an 11-12' high bronze monument which depicts a black family caught in a tight embrace with broken shackles at their feet.

The Monument is to commemorate and honor contributions of African Americans to the cultural, social, educational, economic and spiritual life of the Savannah community.

Visit a gallery and see Savannah like you've never

Visit the gallery of Jack Leigh and see Savannah like you've never see it that way; see Savannah thru the eyes of Jack Leigh.

Jack Leigh passed away in May 19th of 2004 after a battle with colon cancer. Having received numerous awards and accolades during his career he will continue to be an inspiration to all who crossed his path. His dedication to and love of photography inspired him to continue his work until his last days. His spirit will forever reside in the work he left behind. In 1993 Leigh was commissioned to create a photograph for the book cover of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt. The book became an international best seller and the photograph is Leigh's most famous and widely recognized image. The gallery shows several black and white pictures of Savannah. They are so beautiful; you’ve must visit this gallery. The images were selected from the retrospective The Land I'm Bound To. They represent a cross-section of Jack Leigh's diverse bodies of work depicting the life and landscape of the Southeast.

"With his beautifully executed, quiet images of the South, Mr. Leigh challenges the viewer to find beauty in something most people would just walk past" -- Allison V. Smith, Dallas Morning News --

by xtaberx

As for nightlife, it's definitely around in Center City. One place that tourists seem to particularly end up is Club One (at 1 Jefferson), which is where the Lady Chablis, Savannah's most famous drag queen, puts on a show every now and then . . . but there are other places that aren't quite so, er, campy. I can particularly recommend Moon River Brewing Company, which is Savannah's only brewpub (and it makes a good mark of it, too) -- its located on Bay Street across from the Hyatt. Mercury Lounge is pretty rad, too, with jazz music Thursdays Fridays and Saturdays -- 125 W. Congress Street. Savannah nightclubs and bars are for the most part the kind where you have to dress like a decent person. Wear decent clothes . . .

Great atmosphere where you can meet the locals.

by Dutchnatasja about Tubby's Tankhouse in Thunderbolt

Tubby's Tankhouse is located in Thunderbolt, which is right on the River and right outside Savannah. It’s an old house with inside and outside eating. This place has a great laidback atmosphere. They serve good grilled and broiled fish and shellfish. Thursday evening is the best evening to go. All the locals are gathering at Tubby’s to have a great night. You can sit in rocking chairs, and look out over the inter coastal waterway, while the sun is going down. You can have diner or you can just have a drink and listen to the music. Live-music! Inside there is a bar and a dance floor.

There is also a Tubby's Tankhouse at Riverstreet in Savannah. It is good, but it is nothing compare to this one in thunderbolt.

I can highly recommend the experience of the sunset celebration at Tubby's! Everything with fish, it's there specialty!
