statesboro georgia is located in southeast georgia at the intersection of US25 and US80. statesboro is the county seat of bulloch county georgia. the town of statesboro was chartered in 1803. in 1864 statesboro was destroyed by union general w.t. sherman during his infamous march to savanah. after the civil war statesboro became a major shipping point for sea island long staple cotton. by 1908 statesboro led the world in shippments of this fine grade of cotton. in the 1930's a boil weevil infestation destroyed statesboro cotton industry and local farmers turned to tabacco production. today statesboro's economy is based on georgia southern university. the location of georgia southern university gives this small georgia town a lively nightlife. downtown statesboro hosts a number of good restaurants, bars. and nightclubs. for those interested in history and southern culture statesboro is worth a stop.
