toccoa is located at the intersection of GA 17 and US 123 in northeast georgia. toccoa is the county seat of stephens county georgia. stephens county is named after alexander h. stephens the vice president of the confederacy. toccoa is a cherokee word meaning "beautiful". near toccoa is 900 foot currahee mountain which is the southern most mountain in the blue ridge. the actor deforest kelly ( dr. leonard "bones" mc coy of star trek) lived in toccoa and the soul singer james brown once was a janitor at toccoa high school before he became famous. of interest to the tourist is it's nice downtown historic district, toccoa falls, and nearby tullulah gorge state park.
