My boyfriend and I along with another couple went to stay at the Howard Johnson Memorial day weekend for a little vacation. The hotel room was disgusting to say the least! The room had cockroaches and when addressed with the "night staff" the boy at the counter told us he would tell the manager the next morning. We were never contacted. Then when we checked out the lady at the counter was extremely rude! She told us that we should have found another hotel if we had a problem with the room. Unfortunately it was the only hotel with a room since it was a holiday weekend. I will never stay at another Howard Johnson again! They couldn't give us a free room. The staff was absolutely the worst I have ever encountered!
I've stayed here several times. Despite being asked to move once for an inexplicable reason, I would recommend it again. It's clean, it's VERY reasonably priced compared to other hotels on the island, and if you visit their website you can print out discount coupons. Also, it's within walking distance to all of the bars on Tybrisa Street!

Unique Quality: It's proximity to the "main drag" by the pier is a major plus. It's quiet, and within walking distance of Cap'n Chris's for breakfast (right next door) - or for the classic Tybee breakfast experience, head right across the street to the Breakfast Club.
Directions: On your right directly before you reach Tybrisa (16th) street.
