More about Luana Inn
Peaceful place to relax
We arrived with 4 people to Luana Inn and spent 4 days. The place is really peaceful with a nice pool (ocean view) but the spa was unfortunately broken :-(
Anyways we had a great time and we found: Plenty of family games are available, snorkeling gears, new BBQ close to the pool. The bedrooms are spacious and really clean. The breakfast is excellent thanks to the really sweet owners who also take a good care of the place.
A Bed and Breakfast to go in Kona!
Thank you Erin and Ken for these relaxing vacations
rebirth at the Luana
After a week in barren North Kohala ,my family and I were renewed and nurtured at the Luana Inn by Captin Cooks monumet. We had never been to Hawaii before and had no idea where to go or what to do in Hawaii. We knew we didnt want the standard condo tourist experience. The hosts Ken and Erin have the enthusiasm of new parents with the Inn as their baby. Their attention to detail and their interest in their guests vacation experience is a truly special treat for those needing attention. They have a great review of resturants to help you make wise and tasty meal choices. If you need movies they have a plethora of choices ,all cataloged. Their breakfasts are filled with daily changes of egg dishes, tropical fruit , homemade breads(that over flow with macadamia nuts and bottomless cups of kona coffee).
Below the coffee farms and slightly before the beaches we found ourselves at the gate of great activities and food. The Inn offered us emmaculate ,spacious and lovely accomodations. We first stayed in the largest apartment that had a full kitchen (which we didnt use because of the abudance of delicious and affordable mexican and sushi places). After four nights we extended our stay because we couldnt bring ourselves to leave quite yet. We moved to another room off of the main building that had a captivating view of the ocean. Our last night we grilled grass fed Hawaiin beef and purple local sweet potatoes by the pool . We contemplated that we will surely return here.
We (family of 5, children 12, 20, 25) just returned from 3 days at the Luana Inn. It exceeded our expectations and made for a spectacular visit to the Big Island. The accomodations are very clean, comfortable, and spacious. The location is excellent for water activities, hiking at volcano, and most of all, RELAXING. Each day, we contemplated staying at the Inn because it was so inviting with lounge chairs, hammock, great sound system for Hawaiian tunes, and a refreshing pool. The views from the Inn are unforgettable, just as the hospitality from the owners. No need for spending your precious time researching the best bets on this island, because Ken and Erin have composed guides and offer personal and valuable recommendations for the best activities, beaches, hiking, eating, snorkeling, and kayaking. They have taken the work out of vacationing for guests and have, obviously, worked hard to ensure an incredible time for their lucky visitors.
Best B&B we've stayed at for location, food, and service overall
My husband and I just spent a week on the Big Island of Hawaii, traveling from Kona around to Hilo and staying at three places along the way. As soon as we got to Luana Inn (our first stop), I knew it would be hard to move on...after four nights, we definitely were not ready to leave.
First of all, Erin and Ken are wonderful. They are friendly, engaging, and funny, and work hard to ensure all of their guests are comfortable. They make their home feel like your home in a way I haven’t experienced before at a B&B.
The Inn itself is well cared for, and our room (the Moana room) offered nice creature comforts and an excellent view of the sunset, plus a certain level of privacy; we also took advantage of common-area games, a grill, the pool, etc. It is about a 15-minute walk down the hill to kayak at Captain Cook’s monument, and a few more miles puts you at the beautiful Place of Refuge.
The food was delicious; both Erin and Ken are good cooks and served up fresh fruits, homemade breads, an egg bar, Kona coffee, coconut oatmeal, French toast...and more.
In short, we'd definitely stay there again. It's hands-down a better experience than a big resort, and I’m sure you wouldn’t find better for comfort and service in a B&B.
My husband and I spent 3 nights at the Luana Inn, Captain Cook around Christmas last year. We were really pleased with our stay at the Luana Inn. For one, it's conveniently located -close to a few good snorkelling spots in Kona; Two-Step (excellent snorkelling -we thought it was comparable to snorkelling off the Captain Cook monument which cost us $100/pax via catamaran), Manini beach (a more secluded and private beach, also picturesque) and Ke'ei beach (where we chanced upon a green sea turtle in one of the tide pools). It was also nice to be just 5 mins away from an ice-cream at the UCC coffee factory outlet (refreshing in the heat of the afternoons).
Our hosts, Erin & Ken were most hospitable & gracious! They accommodated a very late check-in as well as prepared a breakfast for us the night before an early departure. Their regular breakfasts are very good -fresh fruit & juice, aromatic Kona coffee, hot entree and home made bread. They have also compiled a list of restaurant reviews in the area which we found useful and accurate.
The rooms are modern, spacious and clean. Too bad we did not get to use the pool which has a good view of the coastline. We also noticed that the common room was stocked with board games and a good sound system! They also have snorkelling equipment, boogie boards and coolers for guests to use.
The Luana Inn is an excellent pick for anyone wanting to see the western side of the Big Island!
Our stay at the Luana Inn was delightful. Erin and Ken were the most incredible hosts, kind and paying attention to our every needs. The room was complete with a small kitchen, cleaned every day. We felt at home and secure, for a reasonnable price, including a home cooked breakfast every morning. We would highly recommend it! Michel and Isabelle, Montreal, Canada.
Perfect Captain Cook / Kealakekua Bay Location - "local" atmosphere
The Luana Inn hosts, Erin and Ken, go that extra mile to ensure all their guests leave smiling and satisfied.
The view from the house is spectacular, and we even had the special opportunity to watch whales breeching from the lanai (deck).
Just minutes away are several great snorkeling spots, and if you are interested in heading to other areas or the volcano, it's central enough to get around anywhere you like.
The location is great with a more "local" atmosphere without big hotels around. There were some great and interesting nearby restaurants, which Ken and Erin have made a great review book of for your convenience.
A 10-15 walk takes you to the water's edge, where snorkeling is great and kayaking is available.
The room was perfect, clean, quiet, and the view was included!
Breakfast was delicious, too. A variety of tropical fruits daily with special home made pastries, breads, and Kona coffee.
Great Location & View
Stayed at the Luana Inn at the end of December 2006. First, the view is absolutely spectacular! Second, I loved being close enough to go into Kona, but far enough away from all the side-by-side hotels, restaurants, and touristy shops. Ken and Erin are very nice hosts, and the breakfasts were great!!!
Perfect end for our honeymoon!!
We stayed at Luana Inn in Captain Cook, Big Island for 3 days after being 7 days in Maui. It was the perfect end for our honeymoon!!
The location of the Inn was amazing and the views from our room breathtaking!!
Erin and Ken are wonderful hosts!! They were very kind and helpful!!
The room was very clean and comfortable, it had everything we needed!!
The common area of the Inn was very nice, with a great music system and lots of fun games. It also had many useful travel guides and their own restaurant reviews, very helpful.
The Inn is located in a beautiful, peaceful area, very close to a great snorkeling spot just down the road. And also it is very easy to access the many other spots around the Kailua-Kona area, as well as the Volcanos National Park.
We'd love to spend more time at Luana Inn in the near future!!
Loved everything about Luana!
The Luana Inn is the PERFECT modern B&B. The property is easy to get to, gorgeous and clean, and has incredible views of Kealakekua Bay. We stayed in the Mahina Room with a view of the Bay, located right next to the pool. The room has a comfy queen-size bed, a couch, a TV (which you won't be needing with all the things there are to do on the Big Island!), a kitchen area with sink, microwave, and fridge, a good size closet, a vanity, and a spacious bathroom. If you need them, the room also has towels and beach mats you can use (a nice touch). The room is spotless and tastefully decorated, no cliche Victorian decorations like a lot of B&Bs, and no Hawaiin kitsch. The only thing missing was a hair dryer, but the hosts provided one on request. The hosts, Ken and Erin, are great people. A young couple that really cares for their property and really listens to their guests for feedback. The property also has a common room you can hang out in to read and relax or listen to music. There are cool board games and a computer with Internet that you may use. Oh, there's even a stack washer and dryer out by the pool and that certainly came in handy for our beach towels! Breakfast is buffet style, so you can go anytime 8-10 a.m. You can make yourself an egg or nosh on any of the delicious breads Ken makes, fresh fruits, or sweets like Erin's macnut baklava (to die for!) Ken and Erin have excellent advice for secluded beaches, turtle spotting, snorkeling, and dining. The location is perfect for everything you want to do in the Captain Cook area. It's also a great place if you just want to unwind, which we did on several afternoons. The pool is small but refreshing and the view is incredibly relaxing. We could see whales in the distance one day! I could go on an on about how wonderful Luana Inn is. I hope you'll try it. On our next visit to the Big Island, staying at Luana Inn is a no-brainer!
