Cabin at the volcano by TropicGirl77 I found our KMC cottage and apartment to be a great choice. The weekend we were there, we were able to make a fire in the fireplace in our cozy cabin. You can't beat the $$ for the conveniences here ... just about anything on site could be charged to the room!
Apartments and cottages; some with jacuzzis or kitchens and even fireplaces! This is a complete community along with small bowling alley and miniature golf etc. Cafeteria and lounge on the site. Of course you will need to be military, retired or DoD to make a reservation.

Volcanoe House by derats Since 1846, this historically famous hotel is located on the summit rim of the Kilauea Caldera and nestled in an Ohia forest right inside of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Steps away from the edge of the magnificent Kilauea crater, Volcano House guest rooms offer a breathtaking view of the Kilauea crater, Mauna Loa Mountain and the spectacular native forest of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. All of the rooms are furnished with rare Koa wood furniture for a touch of simple elegance that is uniquely Hawaiian. Volcano House offers the only public accommodation and dining facility inside the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
The Volcano House is perhaps the most rustic and intimate hotel in all of hawaii. It is located in one of the most exciting and unique parts of the world - the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Guests can experience the viewing of the only active volcano in the State of Hawaii within this national park. Cozy reception room by TropicGirl77 There was such a warm friendly atmosphere about this place! Very affordable, and cozy, with a rustic atmosphere. This was a great place lacking in the usual luxuries of television and cable. This was a GREAT place to rest for the night after long days touring the island.

The side of the restaurant that faces the Volcano by LauraEllen, 1 more photos Our group of 4 families stayed here for one night during our visit to the Big Island. We stayed here so that we could have more time at the Park and have the chance to see the glow of the lava. The rooms are simple but adequate. The ambiance is friendly and quaint. It was clean and everything functioned. This is not a luxury hotel, but I'd hghly recommend the experience of staying here. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
The hotel is conveniently located near the Visitor Center. The restaurant at the hotel was decent and had an amazing view of the volcano. The breakfast buffet was good enough and not too expensive. And the view at breakfast was priceless! There is also a small cafe with quick sandwiches for lunch. It seems that they get a lot of bus tours that come there for the buffet lunch, so I might avoid that crowd. Staying at the hotel is a special experience and if you are going all the way to Hawaii and want to experience the Volcano, then you should stay here!

Did not stay but seen the rooms and they aren't impressive but looks very comfortable and cozy. Probably enough if you don't plan on staying in the room all day which is why you came to Hawaii right? I wouldn't stay here if I planned to visit the whole island really. I'd stay in Kona or Hilo which are easier launching points.
