Prepare yourself for an Awesome experience... There is so much to see and do here, you could go on forever. In Kailua, there is an endless amount of 'Must do's'... The Luaus, Sunset Cruises, Resturants, Night Life, Shopping, Water Sport, Golf, Art Galleries, Tours, land sea and Air... A little way out, you can see Captain Cook's Monument, Coffee & Macadamia Plantations, Unbelievable Coastline, Place of Refuge... All this and more, before you even start on touring the 'Big Island' What I will remember most, are the wonderful people of Kona, and how they welcomed me into their midst. I became one of the 'Locals' very quickly. The people here are very friendly and warm hearted. --- And ofcoarse, the Mai Tais were pretty special also... ha,ha..

experience the volcano! You can do this by helicopter ($$$$!) or with your own car. I had been saving up some extra money for this flight, hoping that I would see one of Kilauea´s famous eruptions. But alas, the lava was flowing underground.... BUT I still got rewarded (see below).

Just to the north of St. Peter's Catholic Church on Ali'i Drive, this altar stands as a temple solely to the art of surfing. Here, offerings were made asking for gnarly surfing conditions. Even today, offerings are left, though now it is left by locals of all social standings.
Long ago, surfing was a sport only for the royalty. Commoners caught surfing were punished by death.

I had a lot of lugage cause I was on a month long vacation & I was taking my ROller blades with me as well. Light summer clothes I don't take any pills so... Yashica 105 Zoomate & lots of films :P Bathing suit is a must :P

Volcano Winery. 96 miles from Kailua-Kona and 1 mile from Volcano National Park. Free Wine tasting. They even offer a wine made with honey instead of grapes.......very different. Well worth the detour if your a wine drinker and in the neighborhood anyway.
