We were thrilled with the Turtle Beach Cottage. It is a traditional 2 bedroom Hawaiian home located right on a secluded bay. The house was recently remodeled, spacious and immaculate. Full kitchen and a lanai with sweeping views of the ocean.
I have never seen such views - you walk out your frontroom door and the ocean is right there - spectacular sunsets and watching the surfers out in the distance. Very private location but we did have to share our beach with a family of 6 sea turtles. We recently spent 10 days on the Big Island of Hawaii and stayed at Hawaiian Oasis. Driving into the property, we knew it would be perfect - filled with palm trees and fragrant tropical plants we immediately relaxed. We were met at the driveway by Carol - the owner and she showed us to our suite. We stayed in the Gardenia which has a nice sweeping view, full kitchen and very comfortable and clean. She stocks the refrigerator daily with fresh baked goods, fruit and juice so we could have breakfast whenever we felt like it. I highly recommend this place to anyone who prefers a quiet relaxing place away from the big hotels and tourists.

This hotel was quite nice, though I was happy to get a discount because of the convention I was attending. It's right on the beach, not far from Kahalu'u Beach Park, famous for its snorkeling. I had a nice view of the beach from my 6th floor balcony. The room itself was spacious, with comfortable beds and a full bath. The lobby is inviting and comfortable, with wireless Internet access. Light meals and drinks are available on the veranda, where you can look across the water, observe the fish, and watch the sunset. Tasty breakfast served, but costs extra: the buffet costs $16, while a la carte items cost $9 and up. If you're trying to save money, note that the rooms have refrigerators.
One pet peeve: parking is limited, and you're sometimes forced to use "valet parking" even if you don't want to.

The outside and lobby are impressive, but I was a little disappointed in the room. Our "ocean view" room was that with a stretch of the imagination. Our lanai overlooked the roof of the restaurant, the pool, and way off to the side, the ocean. Yeah, you could see it. Otherwise, the hotel shows some wear, especially in the bathroom area.
The rooms are adequate and the hotel offers discounts and special deals that can even out the cons of the property. The people here are helpful and nice. I would go back, if a good deal was put on the table.
The hotel sits on beautiful grounds, with great snorkeling close by. A great treat, turtles frequent the cove at the hotel. And one of the prettiest sunsets can be viewed from the lounge that sits over the water in the cove. In Anaehoomalu Bay, there are two big hotels: the Hilton (very big and too artificial for my taste) and the Outrigger Waikoloan, formerly known as the Royal Waikoloan. This hotel also owns the beautiful beach and has a lovely garden.
If you travel with children, youŽll like the Hilton better, they have got water slides, dolphins (poor things) and boat rides. But no real beach.

Manago Hotel
It is possible to get a room with a bath down the hall for $25 single $28 double (cheaper weekly and monthly rates).
Otherwise rooms range from $42-61 single or $45-64 double.
Oldest hotel in the area. Captain Cook is at 1000 ft altitude so it is cooler here. I stayed here for 3 months in 1985 without a car and hiked down to the Captain Cook monument in Kealakekua Bay daily. Hilton Waikoloa Village - Luxury resort on 62 acres. 1240 rooms, 3 low rise towers. Very grandiose. We did not stay here but it's worth seeing.
Large, beautiful resort so spread out that you can take a tram or boat(on man-made canal) to various buildings.
Many shops and restaurants, 3 swimming pools, swimming lagoon.
