It's a great hotel for the value with the coupon I have. There are cultural activities within the hotel and has shops and dining within. I wouldn't consider this a luxury hotel but it's great for the price and location. Close to everything! They also have a business center to check email and fax. Let me know if you have any questions!
Unique Quality: This is the only oceanfront hotel in the heart of Kailua Kona Town. The beach is great for children because it's not too deep and it's actually quite relaxing and enjoyable. The canoe paddlers practice right outside of the hotel.
Opinion of Price: less expensive than average

Kamehameha Beach Hotel... I...
Kamehameha Beach Hotel... I didn't stay at this hotel, but it comes highly recommended, and is located right in the Heart of Kailua, and within walking distance of shopping, nightlife, resturants, art gallery, beaches, open air markets etc...
'Ahu'ena Heiau was ordered restored by King Kamehameha in 1812 and dedicated to the god Lono. It is here where King Kamehameha spent his final years until he died in 1819. This historical site is right at the north end of Ali'i Drive, by the King Kamehameha Hotel, and just next to the pier where the Ironman Triathalon.
We had an opportunity to visit this (you can't go in it) while waiting for the Atlantis Submarine tour, which starts at the Ironman pier. Please note...offerings are still left for the gods at heiaus and other sacred spots. Do not touch.
Waikoloa area. King's Shops Shopping Center
by Islandphot about Roy's - Waikoloa Bar & Grill
GREAT food. Very personable service. Nice place, Mellow romantic setting , double glass entrance / exit doors, glass windows overlooking lake, air conditioned, with outdoor seating as long as its not windy, the Waikoloa area is known as the windiest part on the island, Kohala Coast....
Very busy.. Suggest reservations. Open for lunch and dinner. All choices are excellent. And to top it off with a Chocolate Souffle, and if you have a sweet tooth very YUMMY:) with some Frambois ( Rasberry Wine; 6lbs of Rasberry and 17% alcohol just a hair bigger than a wine cooler bottle ), if you really like the wine you can purchase more from Kona Wine Market located in King Kamehameha Shopping Center right above King Kamehameha Hotel at the end of Alii Drive. Kona town, 10 mins from Kona Airport.
Not much, but awesome for the price

Me and a friend stayed at King Kamehameha hotel for about a week while getting certified for scuba diving. Obvisouly this hotel is not the Wynn Las Vegas, but we found nothing to complain: the room was clean, the service was very friendly, the location is awesome and the price is right. Will definitely stay there if I ever visit Kona again.
A trip back in time!!!

We were delighted to stay in the newly renovated tower at the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel!! We have stayed in this Hotel so many times over a span of 20 years and could not have been happier with the changes. The new rooms are clean, updated and very well decorated. Big screen T.V.'s, coffee makers and the other helpful standards are all there but with the feeling of a true Hawaiian Getaway with style. The Staff, as always, was polite and helpful. They went above the "Call of Duty" for us again and helped us find our way around Town more than a few times. Stay here and enjoy yourselves as we did. Walk around Town and have any meal you desire. From fast food to great dinning a short walk will get you there.
Very convenient for my business ... stay there everytime when in Kona.

The convenience of the location and the friendliness of the staff keep me coming back to the 'King Kam' hotel. I have been staying there for years when doing business on the Kona coast and even when business takes me to Waimea.
Do Not Stay Here!
by TripAdvisor Member RockerFellar
Do not stay here! Good central location in Kona but the hotel was awful. Hotel had a funny smell, dirty carped, cherry stems on the floor, food on the countertop, stains on the sheets, need I say more. Management did not apologize and did not refund our money. Another room was offered that we did not take. Marriott in Waikaloa highly recommended.
A Little Piece of Paradise

My fiancee grew up in Hawaii. For years we have been returning for several weeks at a time and staying at the King K. The staff is wonderful and accommodating and the hotel and grounds are beautiful. Every year we look forward to visiting the friendly staff and eating the AMAZING food at the weekend buffets. The hotel is ever changing and may be a little older than the "new resorts" down the road, but that's what makes it so charming and makes us feel like we're home. We would never stay anywhere else!

hotel /condo recommendation for IronMan Competition
by mfenrn
My niece is competing in the Ironman this October. She is staying @ a resort condo in Keauhou. She suggests I look for a hotel Btween Palani Dr and the end of Alii Drive as they will be running in that area. Has anyone attended the event as a spectator that can recommend a hotel or condo that would be along this route?

I have seen 9 of the last 10 World Championship Triathalons in Kona from before the start until after the finish line closes.
You're really too late to get anything you'd normally be happy with. But, if you can afford it, call the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel. They usually have several over priced rooms available for the race "week." It's a great place to stay since it is the center of most official activities for the Triathalon.
Good luck and Aloha!

I saw the Iron Man Thriatlon in October 2005. I stayed in Hilo and drove to Kona. One thing......IF you are going to be on the Big Island during the Iron Man Triatlon and you want to rent a car .....definately book the car at least 3 months in advance !! I was glad somebody told me so I did, because there was NO rental car left on the island during the Iron Man !!

A good source to check is the local paper West Hawaii Today, classifieds. They have a website, www.westhawaiitoday.com. They post apartment rentals, vacation rentals, all kinds of accomodations - there are often people that live along Alii Drive that have rentals only during Ironman week.
