Uncle Billys
This place was great for the price. It had a very faux polynesian feel for a budget hotel. The room was large and had a great view of the bay

Do not stay here ... avoid it at all costs. It's mostly a hotel for construction workers from the Hilo side of the Island.
The food looks like the Luau leftovers from the night before.
Located right in the middle of Kona on Ali'i Dr. Great for exploring the local sights. This hotel is on the lower end of the quality scale, but the room was clean, and the employees were not surly.
Unique Quality: Location, Location, Location. Pool closes early, and the big island is not famous for their beaches............. live and learn huh. Right across the street from the shopping area which is on the water front. One block from the Palace and the starting point of the Ironman Triathalon.

Many people have heard about Kona coffee. Kona coffee has become a major export for the islands in the Hawaiian chain but more so on the Big Island. This is due to the fantastic soil and weather conditions needed to grw coffee. There is an "unoffical" coffee tour one can take and visit a few of the plantations. Some plantations, like the Ueshemia plantation offer the novelty of roasting your own beans (this can be a bit pricey and you do not even get a full pound to take home.)
As you drive through "Coffee Country" you will see smaller farms with signs that say "Cherries for sale" or signs that say "We buy cherries" don't be mistaken the "cherries they are referring to are Coffee cherries and not the kind of tasty fruit you put on a hot fudge sundae. Many locals grow their own beans and then sell to other farms who create a Kona "blend". There are a handful of plantations that only use their beans one such plantation is the historic Greenwell Farms, situated on 35 acres of prime land at an elevation of 1,500 feet. This estate is operated by the descendants of Henry Nicholas Greenwell, an early pioneer in Kona coffee exporting.
Most people begin the tour from Kailua town and travel south to Honaunau. Take Palani Road (Hwy. 190) out of Kailua-Kona to Mamalahoa Highway (Hwy. 180). Continuing south into Holualoa, you'll see the Ferrari Coffee Visitor Center. It's across the street from the 1920s-era, hot pink Kona Hotel. Less than a mile down the road, you'll come to Kona Blue Sky Coffee Company, a large 500-acre estate that offers tours without reservations.
Farther south on Hwy. 180, you will find the Holualoa Coffee Company.
All in all the coffee plantation drive is a lot of fun especially if you like coffee.

Stayed at the Hilton Kona hotel it was very relaxing, except that one of the sisters had a bad sunburn so we had to find her a physician.
