Taro
by Hopkid
Taro is the source for poi. It is also a very important and sacred food to Hawaiians. You can see taro growing in the patchwork fields of the Hanalei Valley. Poi may not be for everyone but it and the plant from which it originates are a very important part of the Hawaiian heritage.
Beautiful Hanalei
by trvlrtom
"Small town Hawaii at its best"
Hanalei is a great little laid back town, good for walking the beach, shopping, or walking around town and enjoying the atmosphere. There are several good restaurants, a great coffee shop and even some night life here. You can learn to surf or kayak up the river if you're up to a little activity. It is also a good stopping point if you are exploring the beaches and hiking further west toward the Napili coast.
"Hanalei Bay"
The long, arching bay is great for a walk and some views. The pier at the east end is very picturesque.
"Beautiful diversions"
As this is the rainier part of Kauai, the vegetation is very lush. Tropical plants abound. Too bad you can't take them home.
Catching the sunrise

"This is why we go to Hawaii"
I am not sure what is the name to this beach but it was beautiful. We found it right before we got into Hanalei and from here is where we saw the sunrise. The water was such a beautiful color and the beach was so clean. We were the only ones here but not too far from us there were alot of surfers.
