Garden Island Inn & Hotel: Nice location
  • Satisfaction:
  • So nice to sleep in a proper bed again, plenty of hot water in the shower, there is a kitchenette sink, along with coffee maker, and small fridge.

They have a queen size mattress, nice and firm, television, a balcony with two chairs and small table, small fridge, coffee maker with packets of Kona coffee and tea, the Restaurants and shops are a very short walking distance away, so you can leave your car at the Inn. A/C, Ceiling Fans, Daily Maid Service, Complimentary Wi-Fi, Complimentary use of beach gear, ice chests and golf clubs, all rooms and balconies are smoke-free. Kalapaki Bay has a wide variety of beach and water activities which include, swimming, surfing, kayaking, deep sea fishing, windsurfing, sailing or sunbathing. There are 21 newly renovated light, bright rooms. The artwork is by a local from Hanapepe

Grand Hyatt Kaua'i: The Jewel of the South Pacific!!

Ok...you want a truly luxurious experience? This is the place. The Grand Hyatt Kaua'i ranks in the top 3 in luxurious accommodations for all of the South Pacific every year by Conde Nast Traveler magazine. There's a reason for that. This place is the most beautiful resort I've ever experienced...and I've seen a lot of nice places. The Grand Hyatt is sprawled out over many acres boasting magnificent landscaping and scenic backdrops. Situated along the South shores of Kaua'i on Poip'u Beach, the Grand Hyatt has the staff and amenities fit for royalty. Everyone smiles, offers to help you, & provides 2nd-to-none service. As with all things luxurious, the Grand Hyatt comes with a hefty price. But, if you have a little hard-earned $$$ to burn, treat yourself....you won't be disappointed. The Grand Hyatt Kaua'i Luau is also a "must-see" event. All the luaus on Kaua'i are relatively the same price. So, that being said, go to the Grand Hyatt's luau if you do one. The Hyatt gets the BEST for everything.

Some other great things about the Hyatt include a huge freeform pool meandering throughout the property. There's also a saltwater lagoon for swimming or kayaking. If you want to pamper yourself (and I highly recommend this), go to the Grand Hyatt's Anara Spa & enjoy ANY spa treatment. Here's a hint: Schedule it in the morning. If you pay for ANY service at the Anara Spa, you will have access to all of its facilities for the rest of the day. This in itself is well worth it. There are dressing rooms for the men and the ladies. Also, there are outdoor showers, a sauna, a WONDERFUL eucalyptus steam room, & a plunge pool to enjoy. They also have a lap pool and a small cafe with heart-healthy fruit/vegetable concoctions & meals.

Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa: If you have the money....
  • Satisfaction:
  • This was a business trip so I didn't have to pay. Given that, this was one nice place. The Anara Spa was incredible- I highly recommend the papaya body polish and massage- and the staff was great. Lots to do for families including a salt water lagoon for swimming. I am not a golfer but I heard that the Poipu Bay Golf Course was awesome. I would recommend it in a heartbeat for anyone who can afford to stay here. Or if you are like me and someone else was paying. :-)

Hyatt Regency Kauai: Favorite Hotel on Kaui

This hotel is the reason we go to Kauai. The rooms are great, the pool outstanding, the grounds incredible, and the staff is very friendly.

The swimming lagoon is the finest one we have ever encountered! Long, partially hidden from the walkway, has a slide and hot tubs along the way.

Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort & Spa: Paradise Found!
  • Satisfaction:
  • This luxarious resort is located on the beautiful south side of Kauai- the garden isle. As you enter the lobby, you notice the framed view of paradise--palm trees, birds, and the ocean. The staff warmly greets you at the front desk and assists you with your settling in to your newfound home. The room was beautiful--you could see the ocean right out your window! One thing you should watch out for is the "Mountain View" Room. They really should say "Parking Lot View" Room. Try the Garden View--there is easy access to the pool from there. The hotel is willing to help you with almost anything--even an additional refridgerator. The hotel hosts 3 freshwater pools. They aren't your normal square or circle pools--they twist and turn all over the place! Also, the poolside snack bar, "Docks", has anything from cheeseburgers to ice cream sandwiches. They will even serve you at your poolside lounge chair! There is even a saltwater lagoon with sand at the shores. It can get to 12 feet deep at points! Of course, it is man made, so there aren't any fish. The pools were really outdone by the builders because the beach is not a swimming beach (REALLY big waves! You can watch people jump off a cliff and land in the ocean, its fun!) The waterslide is fun for all ages! The Hyatt has great activities for all kinds. They have a world-class spa, lei making, aerobics, bird talking, and many other great things! There is a golf course across the road that has been host to the Grand Slam of Golf! The concierge will set you up with anything you could do on the island. There is a variety of restaurants. Dondero's is an upper-class italian restaurant. Ilima Terrace is a breakfast buffet and sit-down dinner. Chow down an appetizer such as ribs or nachoes at Seaview Terrace with the sun setting over the ocean right outside, and live entertainment. And many more! The Hyatt is a wonderful place. I would TOTALLY reccommend this hotel for anyone staying at Kauai.

I absolutely recommend this hotel. As a matter of fact I am dieing to go back! Its the most grandest hotel in the area, beautiful people, cultural location, helpful staff, breathtaking panaramic vistas, gorgeous room with our own lanai (balcony), super romantic, delicious food (can you believe), and yum yum drinks. All in all, I highly recommend the Hyatt Regency in Kauai. You will not be disappointed! I just LOVE this place!

It has so many great qualities - first of all, the staff was beyond helpful from the moment we drove into the property to entering the lobby and navigating to our room. The staff was so courteous and pleasant! I never had this experience duplicated anywhere else. Our room was fabulous and decorated in a tropical Hawaiian style that is very pleasing to the eye. The casual and elegant style adds to your instant relaxed mode. Although the room was awesome, it doesn't compare to the beautiful and expansive grounds of Hyatt. Needless to say we spent tons of time exploring the hotel property and the island sights. After a long day at the beach/pool and exploring it was revitalizing to come back to our nicely refreshed room. The beach is certainly a site for sore, tired eyes. Very tropical feel to the pool/ salt water lagoon areas. We enjoyed many an afternoon here. The poolside service is top rate and the drinks are very addictive. The Hotel Restaurants are very nice indeed. We frequented Illima Terrace for Breakfast every day and were not disappointed although we packed on the pounds! We tried a few of the restaurants for dinner; Italian fare at Dondero's was very good, Tidepools, The Dock (poolside) for a quick late afternoon bite and a stop at Stevenson's Library for drinks and appetizers. Make sure to visit the ANARA SPA, lots of choices but the overall fact is a massage in Hawaii can't be topped. Lastly, my favorite recommendation - catch a sunset from your lanai with your honey while enjoying a glass of bubbly! The Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort and Spa is rated at 4 1/2 stars but I would venture to say that this is my all time favorite hotel. It was a wonderful experience. I want to go back now!

Islander on the Beach: Cheap/Clean Beachfront Accomodations
"Islander on the Beach' has a very friendly staff. They are located on the beach with good snorkeling.

Very clean grounds and a laundry facility for guests usage. They are located behind the Coconut Market Place so you have access to a mini market and several eateries.

Islander on the Beach--Kapaa: Not a good deal
  • Satisfaction:
  • My husband and I chose this hotel in February 2002 for a couple of reasons, 1) we wanted to be on the East shore and 2) we didn't have too much money to spend as this was our honeymoon and we were going to be on the island for two weeks. The service was quite poor. Our first bad encounter was signing in at the front desk. No "Aloha!" no "Welcome!" just "Checking in?" (I've seen sticks with better personalities!) We got to our room, and it was two twin beds. Again, this is our honeymoon, and we booked a queen. Then, the next room had no shower head and was dirty. Finally, we settled for a room with a queen, but a broken A/C. We were awoken the next morning at 7 AM by the repairman wanting to fix our A/C. Glad to have the A/C, but 7 AM is a little early. No apologies and no compensation for our troubles. As we all know, the pictures in brochures and on the company's website don't tell (or rather show) the truth. The grounds were nice, but that was about it. The room wasn't well lit and had a damp, moldy smell to it. The location, however, was great. There is no onsite restaurant and had a small pool and jacuzzi. Each building is named after one of the Hawaiian islands. We stayed in the Ni'ihau building.

Great views of Wailua Beach--if it weren't for that, I would want my money back.
