Outrigger Lae Nani: Central Kauai Location
  • Satisfaction:
  • The entire family agreed that the Outrigger Lae Nani was an excellent choice for a place to stay. Some would say it is a bit expensive but for the accommodations and location it was definitely worth the money.

Our balcony had a great view of the ocean, "private" beach which was protected somewhat by a reef that made swimming and snorkeling easy, pool and was centrally located for us to make all our day trips an equal distance in any direction.

Pahio at Bali Hai Villas: A beautiful Hawaiian getaway
  • Satisfaction:
  • Bali Hai Villas is an amazing condo/timeshare. It is not right next to the beach but it is only about a 15 minute walk, or a short drive. The rooms are clean and the staff is friendly and eager to please you in any way they can. I definately recommend staying with them if you have the chance. It is worth your while.

They have a great pool and the hot tub has a little sandy part that makes you feel close to the beach. The concierge is always there to help you plan a great day. The free Mai Tai's they offer Thurs-Sun are a huge bonus.

Only about 5 miles from the airport, but out of town in a nicely secluded beautifully landscaped area, this timeshare resort is wonderful. It has a deserved Gold Crown rating from RCI. It shares the grounds with a newly renovated Radison hotel. Along with the pool and jacuzzi for Pahio guests only, Pahio guest have full run of the Radison's 3 pools and jacuzzi. Pahio guests also have free use of the workout room. Don't miss the free breakfast buffet orientation at the Radisson---it was fantastic. Enjoy the views and paths around the beautiful lagoon separating the hotel and condos. Walk the rough, but beautiful beach by the resort. Enjoy the happy hour/lighting ceremony around the Radisson's main pool. Play BINGO on Wed. night for free prizes. Attend the Night of Broadway dinner theatre on Thurs. night (about $55/person). Run to Safeway for groceries and Walmart and K-mart, or the many restaurants in Lihue or Kapaa---all only about 5 miles from the resort.

The condos are very roomy and beautiful. We "owned" a 1 bedroom/1 bath condo 1 week every other year. They upgraded us to a 1 bedroom/2 bathroom condo 2 years ago and for our 2nd week this year. The first week this year, we rented a 2 bedroom/2bath condo from RII Stroman for $1000/week. My dad shared that week with us and decided we needed that condo on our "off" years. So now we own a week every year! For a picture collage of the 1 bedroom/2bath condos, check out my Hawaii page under accomodations

Poipu Beach Kauai Oceanfront Condo's: Oceanfront Condominiums!
  • Satisfaction:
  • I didn't stay in these condo's, but I did take a nice walk by them, and if I was to stay longer, I certainly would consider this as an option. They are happy to take your calls from 7:30 am to 9 pm Hawaii time. 3 hours earlier than the west coast from April to October and two hours earlier from November to April. Located on the sunny south shore, here rainfall is less frequent and sunshine is abundant. Many people prefer the sunnier quality of the south shore to the lushness of the north shore. Fortunately you can have it all.

Just a short stroll from Poipu Beach Park, the condos at Poipu Shores Resort will delight you with their location, amenities and the tropical ambiance that you'll desire in a Hawaiian vacation home. They have recently upgraded, tiled, oceanfront pool that will keep you cool and fresh while you watch the turtles and other sea creatures in the waves below the pool deck. The views are fantastic from this location, and you will witness amazing sunsets to round off your perfect day. You can see along the Poipu shoreline all the way to the "Forbidden Island" of Niihau. Poipu Shores 101B is the only fully air-conditioned unit on the Poipu Shores property. You are so close to the ocean, that this completely self-contained and very private vacation condominium is a nice choice. Poipu Shores 305A is a gorgeous Vacation 2 bedroom luxury condo where your view is like a "living painting" It will soothe your senses and take your cares away. Sunsets from the lanai give an incredible vista along the dramatic Poipu coast all the way to Niihau, the "Forbidden Island" imagine sitting with your morning coffee here.

Poipu Plantation: Good location and value
  • Satisfaction:
  • This can either be a bed and breakfast or a vacation rental depending on preference. We stayed in the vacation rental, which included one bedroom, a bathroom, a living room, kitchen, and a dining area. This was good for us as a family. Parking is ample and the grounds are well kept. It was very peaceful and was just a few minutes of walking to get to the beach. It is in a good location in the Poipu area. I do recommend this place for value, and it had everything we needed for our stay. There is air conditioning, although opening the windows and letting the breeze come through is also nice.

There is a hot tub for use. Also, the office has beach towels, bamboo maps, brochures, and books that guests can use. There is also a place to wash off the sandy clothes.

Polihale State Park: The "other side" of Na Pali
  • Satisfaction:
  • Polihale State Park is on the west side of Kauai, just south of the Na Pali coast. The beach and mountain scenery is stunning. We camped there for a couple nights and didn't want to leave. Get your camping permits in Lihue before driving out there!

Princeville Resort: Paradise and Pure Luxery
  • Satisfaction:
  • Wow, this place is heaven. After valet parking your car, the walk into a huge, amazing reception area with statues, statley furniture and a large water fountain which really set the mood for the stay. The room was amazing with spectacular views of the mountains and sea. The room itself was the most relaxing and well furnished room I have stayed in. The room had so many amazing touches - each room features custom-designed furnishings, original artwork, lavish bathrooms with oversized tubs, plus a unique "magic" window that brings the outdoors in, then switches to opaque, for privacy.. as well as a CD layer, mist spray and much more.

The rooms were amazing with spectacular views and the hotel pool was fantastic. The service was also fantastic - laying on the beach, hotel staff regularly brought us glasses of ice water and cold towels.

This property is a fantastic value for what you get. It is also in a perfect location to make your base while exploring Kaua'i. The rooms are decent-sized, clean, & efficient. I highly recommend spending the small difference for an oceanfront room. The views are spectacular, especially in the morning during sunrise. The rooms feature 2 double beds or one queen. You get a small sink, coffee maker, small fridge, microwave, & 27'' TV w/satellite. The oceanfront rooms all have a nice sized lanai with a table and two chairs. The staff here is very nice. The grounds are basic and the pool is very small. But, think about it...you're in Hawaii!! Go in the ocean and enjoy the BIG pool!! Also, the hotel is located right next to the Coconut Marketplace. Here, you'll find many shops & restaurants at your disposal. The beach is very pretty here...but not swimmable.

Sheraton Kauai: Keep Away from Here
  • Satisfaction:
  • Terrible, terrible, terrible. How many times can I say terrible. To start off with, the room was horrible. Tiny, terribly furnished and so basic it was ridiculous. I paid $290 for the night plus tax and it was horrible. I felt like I was staying in a Motel 8 or little crappy motel - the furniture was straight out of the 50s with the horrible side tables with built in radio to the the 50s bed headboard. The toilet broke on the way to bed and we called in the morning and 2 hours later they had still not fixed it. It took four calls for them to fix the toilet. We had to use the lobbey toilet which is terrible when you are paying for the room. I was so happy to get out of this place... plus they charge a $26 resort charge for no particular reason which is added on top of the rate. I love Sheraton hotels and always stay in them - this was such a dissapointment.. Do not waste your hard earned money

That you pay $300 for a room you can not use the toilet in.

The grounds of the hotel were beautiful. The breakfast buffet was typical buffet food but the view was amazing. And complimentary Mai Tais and hula show every evening. Internet service in the lobby. The pool was small but nice. We never had a problem finding lounge chairs. We had booked a partial ocean view and when we checked in we tried to upgrade to an ocean front room (before we even saw our room) but they were booked. It turns out that our partial ocean view was great and we could also see the mountains including amazing sunsets. The 2 photos show our view from the balcony! The only downside, our rooms had obviously not been remodeled in some time and the bathrooms were teeny. The walls were thin and we had some loud neighbors the first two days, we could hear them talking and laughing late into the night. Fortunately they left the second day. I think it was a good thing that we were on the top floor.
