Kauai Beach Resort: Great Hotel

by KevinMichael

We had an absolutely pleasant stay at this hotel. The staff were friendly. The food was delicious (but, expensive... but, that's true for much of the island) and the room and the poolside were superb.

The poolside was beautiful and large. There were a lot of different pools and at least 3 hot tubs to enjoy.

ASTON ISLANDER ON THE BEACH: centrally located and peaceful

by mindcrime

I usually don’t give much attention to the hotels, I just want a good location and usually on budget side. This time we wanted to be near the sea for sure and kind away from towns with busy streets etc. Aston Islander (formerly Resort Quest) was ideal for us because we payed $100 per night and worth every dollar we gave.

It is a 3 star resort which is set parallel to the ocean (pic 1) near the airport (10’ by car) with huge quite rooms, most of them looking at the ocean or at the beautiful garden or pool. The whole are is very nice with many pineapples here and there, a lot of green spaces between the buildings of the hotel etc All the building have names of Hawaiian islands (we stayed at Moloka’i!) and none of them is higher than two stories (forget the ugly huge hotels in Waikiki). There are about 200 rooms.

The room was very big with 2(!) twin beds (pic 2), fridge, microwave, safe, TV and coffee maker (one free coffee per day). We also had a nice balcony where you could stay at the evening and listen only to the waves from the ocean. No luxury really but the bathroom was very big too with many towels (they change them every day), huge mirror and free small nice soaps and shampoo.
There was an internet cable in the room (with charge) but also free wifi at the lobby (where there is a big area to choose or stay out at the veranda that looks toward the pool in the garden) (pic 3). The parking was for free too although we didn’t like the idea of signing a paper that says we are responsible for it! That wasn’t the only paper we singed though, the weirdest one was the one that was about the swimming at the sea that we are responsible for any accident because of the big waves, the sharks and other things like that! :) The beach isn’t the best in the island for swimming because of the rocks in some parts (pic 4) although there is sand in most of it (pic 5) where you can relax and sunbath…

The check in time is at 15.00 but we didn’t have any problem to get in at 11.00. The stuff at the reception are friendly and helpful. There is a small tour office at the lobby where you can book tours (we booked are helicopter tour there). The hotel is an peaceful area but there is the Coconut Marketplace across the street so there you can find many shopping stores and some dining options.

Awesome place to stay. Poi'pu is just across the street. Place was very clean, neat, and wonderful. We opened windows at night and nice cool breeze constantly coming in. The grounds were impeccable. There were 3 pools for us to use. Awesome place, I would definitely stay here again!!

3 pools, Awesome view of ocean, grounds were impeccable, staff extremely helpful and nice.

Camping: Hawaii on a Shoestring

by Etoile2B

If you’re dying to explore Hawaii but are on a budget, or want a little more adventure than the average traveler you might consider camping. This is by far the cheapest way to sleep on the islands and many of the beaches and parks allow overnight camping. Some sites require permits, but they are easy (and cheap) to acquire, but many sites don’t require any permits. Camping in Hawaii allows you the luxury of sleeping on the beach and hiking to remote parts of the island that can only be accessed by foot. Many of the beaches and parks have showers, toilets and barbecue pits free of charge. It’s definitely an unique way to see Hawaii.

Vacation Rentals: Saving a Dime in Paradise

by Etoile2B

Many people choose to stay at a large resort when visiting the islands but there are ways to stay on the islands even if you’re on a budget. If you can’t afford the hefty price tag attached to the hotels here, consider a vacation rental. You’ll also be saving money by having access to a kitchen so you can dine in, rather than at pricey restaurants for all meals. There are many websites out there that make finding these houses and condos easy. I’d recommend starting your search with Vacation Rentals By Owner or www.Craigslist.org. Vacation rentals are also subject to taxes and most usually charge a one time, nominal cleaning fee but almost always this ends up being a much cheaper alternative to staying at a hotel. The vacation rental we had on Kauai even came with free laundry, and access to a pool and tennis courts.

Private homes or condos, most with fully kitchens and laundry. Each property is unique.

Marriott's Waiohai Beach Club: Great Vacation Club

by RobynOT

Loved it!

We stayed in a room facing the parking lot, and it was still great!

The room was a huge 2 room suite with plenty of space for 2 couples. There was also a pull out couch, so you could easily sleep more people if you wanted.

Everyone we spoke with there had a membership to that particular vacation club - from what we gathered it is hard to get a room there - you have to book early!

They have great pools, and a ton of on site services - including renting snorkel gear, etc. There are a ton of common areas/places to grill, play cards, relax. And since it's a time share, you can bring food anywhere with you on the property and they don't give you a hard time, since you're an owner - but - if you want to order food poolside you can do that as well.

The only annoying part of the trip were the people wandering around trying to get you to buy another week :)

Great pool, beautiful beach, wonderful views. Great ambiance overall!

The Point At Poipu: Timeshare/hotel stays

by Travel2write

The point of poipu isn't your average hotel. It's a timeshare that rents out unused or unfilled rooms. My family stayed here for a week adn was overall pleased with accomadations. Guest suites offer large balconies overlooking the garden or the ocean, separate sitting areas and fully equipped kitchens. The spacious master bath features twin sinks, separate shower and deep soaking tub. Entertainment centers and washers and dryers round out the amenities list. Internet access is available in rooms for a fee. The Point at Poipu offers oceanfront elegance on Kauai in sunny Poipu.

We booked a 2 room suite and the living room had a pull out couch to offer room for six. I recommend a group of 4 adults and let the kids sleep on the pullout if your group is larger than 4. Some of the best things we the litchen adn laundry facilities in your room. Kauai is a very muddy and sanding island. the laundry machines will be a god send.

Poipu Kapili: Relaxing Poipu condos

by kAINUI

Our favorite is beaches in October are in the Poipu area.

Check out http://www.poipukapili.com/

Relaxing, beautifully landscaped, well designed. Awesome views. Nice people - huge rooms.

The south shore is the most reliable place to assure "beach days", even if the rest of the island is raining - poipu can be sunny.

Poipu Plantation: Good location and value

by sswagner

This can either be a bed and breakfast or a vacation rental depending on preference. We stayed in the vacation rental, which included one bedroom, a bathroom, a living room, kitchen, and a dining area. This was good for us as a family. Parking is ample and the grounds are well kept. It was very peaceful and was just a few minutes of walking to get to the beach. It is in a good location in the Poipu area. I do recommend this place for value, and it had everything we needed for our stay. There is air conditioning, although opening the windows and letting the breeze come through is also nice.

There is a hot tub for use. Also, the office has beach towels, bamboo maps, brochures, and books that guests can use. There is also a place to wash off the sandy clothes.
