More about Bamboo Jungle House

Excellent, interesting, beautiful and the nicest hosts

by A TripAdvisor Member

We spent four nights in the suite at Lucys and Terrys place and it really was the best we could do on our trip to the hawaiian islands. The place is exactly as perfect as everybody describes it! Decorated with love! We especially loved the early morning and the late evening: in the morning you can take a swim in the pool and then enjoy the tasty breakfast Terry creates and in the late evening you should give the hot tub a try!! What else should we say- a perfect setting, perfect hosts and we hope to be back.
PS: you have to try the AHI Hawaiian style (ask Terry)

A Perfect Getaway

by A TripAdvisor Member

Surrounded and protected by dense panic trees (a most inappropriate name for vegetation in this case!) the Bamboo Jungle House is an island of tranquility. Lucy and Terry Ryan have done their utmost to create an atmosphere of relaxation and enjoyment, from the whimsical decorations in the immaculate rooms, to the beautiful patio, lap pool and waterfall. Their hospitality and graciousness are unmatched. We have never stayed at a B&B where the hosts were more devoted to the guests, yet in a non-intrusive way. The location is a perfect combination of being out of the way, yet a short drive to many of the attractions of the island's south shore. For anyone who prefers the intimacy and simplicity of the B&B atmosphere, this is a great place to stay and to use as a home base to explore one of the most friendly and lovely places on the planet -- the island of Kaua`i. We plan to return again and again. Aloha!

A Home Away From Home

by A TripAdvisor Member

My husband and I found the Bamboo Jungle House on TripAdvisor, and were thrilled when it turned out to be everything we'd hoped it would, and more.

This small B&B is located in Kalaheo, a residential neighborhood about 10 minutes' drive from Poipu on the South side of Kauai. When we made our reservations, we were a little concerned that we'd be "too far away from everything." We shouldn't have worried. Kalaheo is very close to Poipu, and coming home to this neighborhood every night was a nice change from the impersonal, big "resort" feeling of many Kauai hotels.

Owners Lucy & Terry are wonderful hosts. Each morning, Terry prepared an amazing breakfast, featuring local fruits, juices and other specialties like coconut-pineapple pancake syrup. These were hearty breakfasts which gave us plenty of energy for the days ahead.

Lucy was so helpful in planning our activities. She helped orient us to the island on our first day, going over maps and suggesting things to do. She booked dinner reservations and activities for us as well. This was great for us since it was our first time on the island, and having a "guide" really helped!

There are 3 rooms - two smaller rooms on the second floor, and one larger (the Bamboo Garden Suite) on the ground floor. We stayed in the Suite, which was perfect for our needs (we were there for a week). A large bathroom, a kitchenette, a sitting area and a lovely canopy bed. All rooms have a private deck or balcony, and the feeling is very private - we never ran into any of the other 2 couples that were there during the entire week, except at breakfast!

The feature we particularly loved was the lap pool and jacuzzi. Every day, we'd come back from our adventures and cool off in the pool. It was such a beautiful setting, we really felt like we were "home" and not at a hotel!

Wonderful ocean breezes and the soothing sound of wind chimes lulled us to sleep every night. Although the house is located in a neighborhood, it is completely enclosed by tall walls and greenery, so you feel like you're in another world.

Lucy & Terry also provided beach towels, chairs, umbrellas, coolers and even sunscreen so we didn't have to think of anything. Each morning, our fridge was magically restocked with water and juice for the day. The place is immaculate from top to bottom, and everything from the landscaping to the table linens was done with an eye to detail.

Because it is in a residential neighborhood, yes, sometimes you can hear street noise (cars driving by). The sound of the jacuzzi waterfall muffles this greatly at night and early mornings, however, and it never kept us awake.

Lucy & Terry have created a wonderful, serene haven that added so much to our trip. You can tell these are people who really love what they're doing and are born B&B hosts. I would recommend the Bamboo Jungle House to anyone, and can't wait to go back again.

A perfect place to stay in Paradise with perfect hosts!

by A TripAdvisor Member

My wife and I recently returned from staying 5 nights in the Bamboo Jungle House. All we can say is that the experience was simply perfection! Just a sampling of what you can expect, include:

We stayed in the Bamboo Garden Suite on the ground floor. The room has a very comfortable bed, a roomy bathroom, and a kitchenette. We found the room perfect for our needs. Since it is on the ground floor it does not have a view of the ocean, but it does have a beautiful view of the wonderful grounds on the at the Bamboo Jungle House. We were amazed at how beautiful their landscaping was...just check out their website for a sampling (which doesn't even truly do the actual beauty justice).

Every morning Chef Terry cooks up a very tasty treat for breakfast...complete with delicious local fruits. One month later and I can't bring my self to eat a grocery store banana after they introduced me to what a banana should really taste like. The breakfasts are also very filling...despite an active schedule, we regularly found ourselves skipping lunch because we were still full.

The morning meal is also a perfect time to get tips, hints, and ideas from Lucy and Terry on how to spend your day. Their knowledge and love of the island is inspiring and we never found ourselves disappointed by listening to their advice. While Terry is cooking, Lucy will take the time to get to know what your interests are and then provide not only suggestions, but make sure you also have what you need (directions, cooler, etc.).

We were also amazed at how many of the "little details" Lucy and Terry have taken care of. In the room, there are three sets of towels...bathroom, pool, and ocean. They also have umbrellas, chairs, mats, and sunscreen for trips to the beach available. Wireless internet is also available in the rooms.

My wife and I have stayed in many B&Bs in many different locales. The Bamboo Jungle House ranks as our favorite. The scenery is beautiful, the accommodations are perfect, and the hosts are simply the best!

A great place!

We spent five relaxing nights at the Bamboo Jungle House, and had a great time. It is centrally located on the island, so you can get to the sights on both sides of the island easily. And you are not in the way-too-touristy Poipu area. Lucy offers a lot of ideas for places to visit and things to do, while Terry whips up some mighty fine breakfasts every day. And the pool is great for a quick dip before breakfast. We would definitely stay there again!

Paradise Found at The Bamboo Jungle House

by A TripAdvisor Member

The Bamboo Jungle House was the perfect place to spend our honeymoon. This bed and breakfat is an old plantation style home and is very secluded. The owners (Terry and Lucy) have created their own piece of paradise on Kauai's South Shore. There is a man made lava rock waterfall right outside the room. It was so relaxing and put us to sleep at night. We stayed in the waterfall room which was very cozy. It had a four poster canopy bed with netting over top. The bathroom was stocked with all Hawaiian products; lotions, soap, etc. to give it that real local feel. There was also a beautiful flower arrangement and congratulatory greetings when we arrived. The highlight of our stay was the Lomi massage by the waterfall in the gazebo, followed by ginger lemonade and pineapple by the pool. I lost all track of time and space, but definately found my happy place. Lucy and Terry are so sweet and will do anything for you. In the mornings, Terry cooks while Lucy catches up with all her guests. She's the perfect host and they make a great team. If anyone ever wants to know where customer service went, just visit the Bamboo Jungle House and you'll find it.

Delightful B&B, Perfect Hosts!

by A TripAdvisor Member

We were thoroughly delighted with our 6-night stay here in September. Lucy and Terry are the best B&B hosts we've ever come across - they paid attention to all the little details to make sure our stay was perfect in every sense. We truly felt like family, and coming back at the end of our day's adventures on the island was really like "coming home". Lucy's recommendations for restaurants and especially hiking and beaches were great. The atmosphere at the Bamboo Jungle House is like a garden retreat, and the lava jacuzzi and pool area are so relaxing. We stayed in the Bamboo Garden Suite, a spacious and perfectly-decorated room complete with kitchenette. If you're looking for something different from the usual beach resort for a truly special trip, stay here!

Can't wait to go back!!!!

by A TripAdvisor Member

My husband and I happened upon this wonderful bed and breakfast practically by accident -- AND WE'RE SO GLAD WE DID! We can't say enough about how much we loved the Bamboo Jungle House. Innkeepers Terry and Lucy are wonderful. They serve breakfast every morning and know a great deal about the island. They are committed to their guests. Our stay at the Bamboo Jungle House was relaxing, healing and unforgettable and we can't wait to go back. I highly recommend booking the bigger room with the kitchenette -- if you don't mind doing a little light cooking while vacationing. Be sure to enjoy the waterfall Jacuzzi at night (under the gorgeous blanket of stars). And definitely get a massage in the Gazebo! We have friends that can't go to a place like Hawaii unless they are within walking distance of the beach. If you are like that, too, than Bamboo Jungle House is probably not for you. But if you want serenity, relaxation and a place to stay that is not saturated with touristy shops, THIS IS THE PLACE!

Loved the Bamboo Jungle House

by A TripAdvisor Member

The Bamboo Jungle House B&B, with Lucy & Terry as the Innkeepers, made our stay in Kauai just perfect! We were in the Waterfall Room for 5 nights in early October -- what a wonderful way to fall asleep and wake up -- to the soothing sounds of the waterfall right outside our french doors.

Lucy and Terry made it all even better...we felt totally at home and really appreciated their hiking suggestions. They were also very helpful in making helicopter tour and dinner reservations.

They have worked hard to present an immaculate, homey, B&B, and Terry's breakfasts are to die for!
We have recommended them highly to friends who live in Maui and want to visit Kauai.

After staying at the Bamboo Jungle House, it's the only place we'll stay when we return...can you tell...we loved it!

You'll find a lot of aloha here!

by A TripAdvisor Member

My husband and I spent the beginning of our honeymoon here, and we couldn't have been happier with our experience. I can be a little bit of a particular traveler when it comes to cleanliness and friendliness, and we found both to be in great abundance at the Bamboo Jungle House.

Lucy and Terry keep an absolutely immaculate place, from the pool and other common areas to the Jungle Room (where we stayed) and the bathroom there. In addition, the Ryans couldn't have been more welcoming, starting from the moment we first spoke with Lucy to book our stay. While we were there, Lucy never failed to come up with several suggestions for great hiking and beach adventures.

Don't miss any of Terry's breakfasts. The fruits and breads especially are great. We still think a lot about his apple banana bread (and even got the recipe from him, though we've yet to try it) and the local mangoes. And if you can, be sure to get a hot stone massage from Michelle in the gazebo. It is a wonderfully relaxing experience and is well worth the money.
