I found Kauai Sands Hotel a great place to stay at Kauai. Located within walking distance from shops and restaurants, quiet location, nice beach (with a beach walk all along the resort areas). Yes, the place is simple and not really new, but the rooms are absolutely clean, and kept clean by the friendly and attentive staff. Carpets and matresses are of high quality. Resort features two pools, a nice garden with ample space. No on-site restaurant was there, a little shop caters for the most urgent needs of travellers and sells coffee and snacks. Ample free parking space. The personnel is absolutely nice and helpful all the time. Considering the price we paid together with the central location on the island (20min. drive to Lihue airport) of Kauai - I can absolutely recommend that place.
Unique Quality: *Clean, spacious rooms
*Quiet, yet centrally located
*Nice beach
We will be coming to Kauai in April '07 and are looking for a small, romantic cottage/bungalo that walks right down to the water. We have seen a few at the Kauai Gardens that look pretty good, but need some local knowledge. We dont want an apartment or a condo, but a kind of a stand alone unit.
Can anyone help us out ?
Thanks, Tim and Donna
Depends on how much $$$$ you're willing to get into... I'll check in our local pub tomorrow as one of the wait staff moved to Kauai last year to persue a real estate career and is doing rather well from last reports. I'll hopefully get an email address for you to contact.
Have a look at Kapaa Sands, it might work. If you are looking for a private residence, look here http://www.kauaivacationrentals.com/ or Google Kauai Vacaction rentals
Aloha Tim & Donna,
Here are a couple of links to check out.
http://www.alternative-hawaii.com/acckau.htm
http://www.hawaiianbeachrentals.com/Hawaii/Kauai/rentals1.htm
The first link has a clean interface to use and the better budget choices, IMHO. The second is a little more cluttered but has a broader selection (from big $$$ to budget locales).
Keep in mind that some of the better places usually book 6-12 months in advance. Last January we were planning our trip for this past October. We found several cottages online for the north shore of Kaua`i that were either oceanfront or very close to the water. Most of the better locations were already booked.
Good luck!
Thanks for all your help folks......I'm sure we will find something to our liking.
You might also try vrbo.com. I've had really good luck there on multiple islands. :)
