Hawaii on a budget???

by belgian_joe

Hey,
I am traveling to Hawaii with my girlfriend for 3 weeks end of July- beginning August. We are gonna spend some time on 2 islands, but we're not sure yet which ones...
However, it seems that the places to stay are either really expansive resorts (expansive for us budget travelers) or really cheap campsite.
Althought we like the idea of camping, we don't want to do it for 3 weeks!
Are there other cheap options?

For instance we will rent a car and I was thinking of maybe renting a campervan instead, is it something popular in Hawaii?
What are the best websites for renting cars (and campervans) in Hawaii?

Thanks in advance, and aloha :-)
Joe

Not sure about campervan, but here's a reasonably priced lodge a lot of people rave about.

Hanging out in Kapa'a

by malianrob

The condo was right on the beach but the beach wasnt very swimable. We did have a wonderful view though. Koa liked playing outside in the water and the sand. It was very shallow so he was ok but there were alot of rocks.

This is another view of Kapa'a Shore. It is part of the timeshare we own with Worldmark the club. Like I said before it wasnt anything fancy and this is one of their older resorts but it was affordable and in a good location. We were close to the shopping markets and food places.

I wasnt trying to pose in this picture although it might look like i was.

The pool was not heated mostly because its usually warm in Hawaii but while we were there it was cold and rainy. A heated pool wouldve been great! But we did have the jacuzzi.
For kids it doesnt matter, a pool is a pool and Kekoa didnt leave us alone unitl we got him in the pool. No matter how cold it was.
