Relaxing Poipu condos
Our favorite is beaches in October are in the Poipu area.
Check out http://www.poipukapili.com/ Relaxing, beautifully landscaped, well designed. Awesome views. Nice people - huge rooms.
The south shore is the most reliable place to assure "beach days", even if the rest of the island is raining - poipu can be sunny.
We always go back to Poipu Kapili
We have stayed at Poipu Kapili numerous times over a period of almost 20 years, and we have always felt that the management (POVR) and staff were always friendly and accomodating. The condos have been well kept and maintained. We plan on returning in Feb. 2008 for another three week restful stay.
This place is the best!
Just returned from 7 days and 6 nights at the Poipu Kapili. Every aspect of it was perfect.
First, the unit. It was spacious, clean, well-appointed, bright, modern. There was nice art on the walls, comfortable beds, and large bathrooms. And the owners even thought to provide a series of Kauai guides that were useful as alternatives to our own.
Second, the grounds. Beautiful plantings, great pool, lots of tennis courts, front yards facing the ocean for each of the oceanfront units (highly recommended!).
Third, access. The Sheraton beach is a five minute walk, and the road to Waimea or Hanalei is just a couple of minutes away. There are many good restaurants in Poipu and nearby towns. Shopping and rentals (snorkeling equipment, etc.) are also a few minutes down the road.
Fourth, management. These folks know how to treat their guests. They could teach a grad school course in resort management. Everything they do is geared to making your stay better, which is tough given how delightful the facility is. But they manage to accomplish it!
Stay someplace else on Kauai if you wish, but you won't find any place nicer than Poipu Kapili!!!
Above the rest... it's the best!
We booked a two bedroom oceanfront condo from Saturday to Friday - 6 Nights to share between two couples.
Upon arrival, we were greated at the office by a very nice lady (I forget her name) who gave us a phenomenal deal on a premium condo. That was the icing on the cake!
We had a beautiful condo, Suite #1. It was the very last condo and so it was the most private. Housekeeping was great, the facilities and grounds were surperb and the tenants were unseen.
The only thing that was sometimes bothersome is that there is a road along the shoreline and sometimes locals would hang out there late at night and party with their stereos cranked up. We came to get away from that... so it was sometimes a nuissance, since it was right outside our oceanfront doors.
Also, there is construction occuring behind Poipu Kapili and you do hear some noise from machinery in the AM and daytime. But that wasn't unbearable.
If you love snorkeling and diving, we found that RIGHT outside the resort is the best site that we found out of the 10 spots we went to. We saw the most turtles there too! It is a bit dangerous going off the rocks. However, just a walk down the road is Koloa Landing and you can enter the water there where it's safer.
We will definitely return to Poipu Kapili again and continue to recommend it first to everyone who goes to Kauai!!!

Spectacular, Cozy, Well-Situated Place!
We just got back from 6 days in Kauai and our visit could not have been better, mostly due to the beautiful luxury condo at Poipu Kapili. We stayed in unit #7 and it is completely remodeled (new tile and jacuzzi tub in the master bath; new kitchen with granite countertops and new appliances and cabinets, etc.). The artwork and furniture were very tasteful. We were blown away by the excellent price for the condo compared to some of the prices we were quoted at Kiahuna Plantations, for example. The grounds and pool of Poipu Kapili are very well maintained, as well as the four barbecues-two gas, two charcoal (they seem to be cleaned every night). There are herb gardens so you can barbecue with fresh tastes, and the staff is extremely kind at the front desk. The oceanfront view was spectacular and the area is safe. Kapili is within walking distance of the Sheraton Hotel's very nice beach-highly recommend that beach over the too-popular and windy Poipu Beach. We had two lanais also-bonus. This condo left nothing out for the gourmet cook (even had very good knives) or the beach bum (umbrellas, fins, etc.) or the hard-to-please traveller. We will definitely return. It exceeded all our expectations! Recos: Waimea Canyon, Napili Coast, Spouting Horn, Kekaha Beach (sand dunes), Casa di Amici restaurant for foodies.
Wonderful Stay, Fantastic Staff
We had a fantastic time at the Poipu Kapili condos. We were very impressed with every aspect of our stay. These are truly luxury condos!
The condo was beautiful. There was stone tile work on the patio and cute little birds would sit on the patio furniture. The furnishings and fixtures were beautiful. The condo had beautiful plantation shutters and granite countertops, but still had a comfortable home-like feel. The ocean view from our patio was spectacular.
We espeically appreciated that the condo had an elevator. It made transporting our luggage so much easier.
I was very impressed to see that our one bedroom condo had two seperate complete bathrooms. Each bathroom had its own vanity and toilet and one bathroom had a shower stall and the other had a bathtub/shower combination. The double bathrooms made getting dressed in the morning convenient and enjoyable.
The one small negative was the lack of air conditioning. The condo had many fans which helped with air cirulation, but there's nothing like air conditioning.
The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. We would definately stay here again.
This property is outstanding. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and the loacation is convenient to the Poipu beaches and restaurants. We stayed in Unit 4 which has an oceanfront view. This condo is BIG, tastefully decorated, very clean and upgraded and has all the amentities-from a fully stocked kitchen to Hawaiian CD's, DVD's and games. It is not airconditioned (not many are in Kauai) as it does not need to be. The constant ocean breezes and indoor fans keep the unit comfortable. The view from the master bedroom is as wonderful as you would expect. There are only about 60 units so it always seemed intimate and fairly private. The pool was perfect for an afternoon or evening swim. Office staff was courteous and room staff came in 3 times in a week's time for fresh towels and clean up. If you check out their website, what you get is better than what you see in the pictures...and the pictures are nice! We've traveled extensively and have stayed in many very nice hotels and condos. This was our seventh Hawaii trip. The Poipu Kapili ranks high on the list for overall quality. It's not cheap, but what is in the Islands? My family highly recommends this property and gives it 5 stars.

Home in Hawaii
Incredible! My first phone call to Serene made me feel at ease. Stop searching! You found a home away from home. It's perfect, I'm not kidding.... Park near your condo doorway, shop in local markets to create your own meals at home, open the windows and the patio doors, relax and enjoy the waves crashing since you will be steps away from the water, fall into a comfy bed, and chill in a quiet pool.... Never in my wildest dreams would I have expected my stay at Poipu Kapili to be everything I needed. I packed too much (should have listened to Serene)! The washer and dryer were used after days at the beach, hiking, etc. Serene helped navigate our time with planning hikes, kayaking, zip line, catamaran... etc. You can't go wrong with anything you decide to do in Kauai..... Where you rest makes the difference! Loved it! Miss you Serene, I'll be back to visit you! I'd rather be in Hawaii...
I have used tripadvisor extensively when planning a trip, so thought I should return the favor with this review.
We stayed at Poipu Kapili during our honeymoon recently (mid June 2007). And what a great find! We researched all areas of the island and finally decided that we wanted to stay on the south part of the island. We initially planned on staying in a hotel, but couldn't resist the increased living space that a condo allowed.
We were persuaded to stay at this property because of its smaller size, its proximitely to the ocean, and the fact that it appeared more intimate...and luckily we were right in every way!
Our unit was a beautiful and newly remodeled premium oceanfront condo - everything from the flooring, furniture, appliances, kitchen and bathrooms was new. We liked the granite counters and high-end appliances. Our condo was a 1bed/2 full bath condo and around 1200 sq. ft. It appeared that the large majority of units had a great view. The grounds are gorgeous and very well maintained (beautifully vibrant bougenvillias are everywhere). Parking is very convenient. There was no A/C but there were ceiling fans in the living area and bedroom. The only time this was slighly uncomfortable was in the bathrooms sometimes since there wasn't as much cross breeze, but not a big complaint. It was nice that we could use the screen doors at night and lock the dark wooden shutter doors in place for security, while also letting the breeze in.
The pool area was very relaxing and there weren't many kids around (important to us since we were honeymooning). It definitely was a retreat for us to come back to in the late afternoons after our adventures. I noticed that some visitors used the gas or charcoal grills although we ate out every night. We sat on our ground floor lanai sipping cocktails most evenings and enjoyed watching the waves crash just ahead.
Please be aware that there is a street between the ocean and the property and no beach access directly across the street (it's a rocky shoreline). But then again, the Sheraton beach is just a 5 minute walk down the road. Also, due to construction on Poipu Road (not visible and barely audible from the property), a detour directed more traffic than is typical onto the street in between the property and the water. Even so, it was not a huge amount of cars that passed by (as in there was no stopped traffic out front ever).
We loved our stay here and would definitely return...hopefully for an anniversary trip in the future!

Does anyone know anything about these condo's. My fiance and I are trying to plan our Honeymoon to Kauai but could use some advise on the different condo's around Poipu.
RE: Poipu Kapili
I like them alot. I would think a hotel would be better for a honeymoon because you won't have to cook and clean but, the condo idea is great for high quality at a reasonable rate.
RE: Poipu Kapili
I've stayed here. They are very nice condos, many upscale. The resort is centered around the pool and is across the (not busy) street from the ocean. Landscaping and gardens are nice and there is a tennis court. You are a 5 min walk to the beach in front of the Sheraton. We stayed in the back which didn't have an ocean view but looked out over an empty lot that was full of roosters. And it is true that roosters crow all night long. Poipu Kapili is a nice place except for the roosters.
Other suggestions in that catagory:
Whalers Cove - this is the most upscale condo resort with great ocean views. It is right on the water and there is great snorkeling there. The pool overlooks the ocean.
Poipu Sands - this is a nice resort with large pool, tennis courts, wide open grassy areas and beautiful landscaping. There are a few 1 BR condos. It is right on Shipwreck beach and is adjacent to the Hyatt hotel.
