More about Castle Kaha Lani

Home away from home

by ballerina11 about Kaha Lani

We won a weeklong stay at this condo at a charity event in Chicago. It was a great place to stay and I would definitely return. It was a secluded resort of condos -- a quiet place, plenty of people but not touristy like the big hotels. Situated right on the ocean, it made for incredible views. The stretch of beach in front of the property wasn't quite swimmable in the winter, though. That's what the pool is for, though! Location wise, we felt it was perfect -- smack dab in the middle of the north and south shores, so we got equal time exploring all parts of the island. Plus its right near the Wailua River, Smith's tropical paradise luau, and lydgate park, which is a family-oriented beach. Having a kitchen was a great addition -- we did a big shopping trip at Costco and were able to cook quite a few meals, which made nice with our bank accounts. The bbq is in the pool area, and at nighttime it was fun to go down there and cook, eat and chill out with the tiki torches and waves crashing in the backround. I think these condos run about $200 a night, and from what I know that is relatively cheaper than the big hotels on Kauai.

Has anyone stayed at the Aston Kaha Lani in/near Lihue? I've read from a few places that it's a pretty nice place, somewhat secluded., but any other input would be helpful. Thanks.

Thanks, AT

We're also going to be on the Big Island and Oahu(convention), but I can't wait to see Kauai!!

Can anyone recommend a comfortable and low cost place to stay on Kauai? We will not be spending much time at the hotel but we would like it to be clean and reliable. Thanks!

Don't know exactly what you're looking for as far as low cost but I'd recommend you go to which is a site for condo rentals for all the islands. We were there in November, 2003. We found one through this site in Kapaa on the eastern side of the island which we liked and found very convenient. It was the Kaha Lani (Phuki Lani #109). It has its own website. Anyway, you'll find many offerings at the afore mentioned site at a myriad of prices. Hope this helps. Oh, by the way, you'll love the many various waterfalls on Kauai. Finally, if you haven't already get "The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook" through It's great. We actually got it through at a much reduced price.

Don't know if you're into auctions or not, if so go to There are quite a number of Kauai places usually listed. If you're not familiar with the process, a few words of caution - Be sure to read all the particulars, i.e. per night additional charges for taxes and services. I've seen where many people have gotten great bargains but like I said do your research and know exactly what your total costs will be.

The better deal will be renting a condo for about $900 try www, has good air flights. It's cheaper going off season I GO IN May or Sept. Also try cars I usually go to or for air or all travel needs to get a ideal of the cost.

Most car rentals are fairly cheap in Kauai, as there are so many providers. Air would obviously depend on where you were coming from, we found the best deals through ATA/Southwest, though I would not recommend ATA as an airline. If you are looking for a good place with a kitchenette, I would definitely recommend staying in a condo. That's what we did and it was SO nice having a kitchen. We stayed at Kaha Lani in Lihue (Castle Resorts) -- it was a nice location right on the beach, a great pool (good for kids) and close to everything. We could easily get to the north or south shore when we needed to.

by Avryle

ABC Stores. These things are located like every block in Honolulu and a little more spread out on Kauai. As everyone who's been there or lives/d there knows, they're the one-stop shop for all your tourist junk. However, something I discovered, is that their alcohol is a hell of a lot cheaper than even the grocery stores. I bought a bottle of wine at Safeway, then found the same bottle $5 cheaper at ABC, same thing with Kahlua and Cuervo & margarita mix.

by derats

Queen's Bath is located on the north shore, it is a large natural pool craved into the lava shelf. It is a marvalous pool to swim in and many fish get in also. It is not safe during high surf.
To get there, follow the trail 25 yards from the end of Kaoplani Road in Princeville. The trail meets the ocean where the small waterfall drops directly into the ocean, go left for 300 - 400 yards. It is recessed in the rock. Use the waterfall on the way back up to rinse off the salt.

Lihue and Kauai Page

by kahiwa

The island of Kauai is known as the Garden Island. It is a lush tropical island, basically round in shape, with mountain peaks in the center and white sand beaches dotting the shorelines. The highest peak on the island, Mount Waialeale, has the highest rainfall in the state, and at times in the world. This high level of rainfall not only keeps the island green, but has carved the beautiful Waimea Canyon on the south side of the island. Although it is not as large as the Grand Canyon, many say it is just as beautiful, with steep canyon walls of green, orange and red, changing colors as the sun hits it at different angles throughout the day. This is a rural island, with lots of scenic beauty but not much else to do. If you're looking for action and adventure, look elsewhere. It's a great place to kick back, relax, and explore the beauty of nature.
