We stayed here in early November 2011 for seven nights. The resort has all of the amenities you would expect for a beach front property in Hawaii including a large pool, beach/surfboard rentals, and the adjacent Kauai Lagoons golf course. Two of the restaurants are beside the pool area.
On the property there are several stores (general, jewelery, clothing), a day spa, car rental, and about four restaurants.
If your looking to relax by the beach on Kauai this might be one of the best places. I would definitely stay here again.
The resort is very near the airport, but you don't notice any airport related noise, and its location in Lihue means that it is centrally located for touring the rest of the island.
Unique Quality: They claim that the pool is the largest on the island, and they're probably right - its pretty big. The pool is circular and has a island in the middle. There are a number of hot tubs on one side.
There is a beach volleyball court between the pool area and the ocean.
Opinion of Price: more expensive than average

If I want to get to Kapaa from the Lihue Airport, is there any reason why I can't just hop on any hotel's airport shuttle and pick up public transportation to my real destination (a youth hostel) once I reach the hotel?
Re: Lihue Airport Shuttle
by HarmoniousBotch
It would probably work; I just came back from Kauai yesterday and National car rental co didn't check any kind of paperwork when we got on. I don't recall the others doing it either. But, on at least one occasion -- the Dollar shuttle, I think - it was full and people had to wait for the next one. If you do it under those circumstances you would be taking a seat that legitimately belongs to someone else.

Kauai is the Garden Isle, the scenery is breathtaking. From the mountians to the sea it is one beautiful view after another. An absolute must is just to look around you. Kauai is the first place that I ever set foot on American soil. Who could ask for a better place for their first visit. It is truly paradise.

Grove Farm Homestead Museum is an original Plantation complex that has daily tours. It is very low key and interesting. They even give you a treat of sugar cookies from a wood oven. There is a lot of history here, and beautiful grounds. (808)245-3202

Polihale State Park, is the end of the road, take highway 50 from Lihu'e and head west 32 miles to Missile Range, just go through the gate to the guard house, then on a dirt road pass Barking Sands Beach, once at Polihale you will find 15 miles of beach 300 feet wide, with dunes upto 100 feet. This is where the Na Pali Coast starts, so you can go no further on this side of the island without a boat. The best place to swim is Queen's Pond, as it is encircled by a small fringing reef, and swimming is good except during high surf. The rest of the beach has no such protection. Facilities here include shower, picnic tables and water.
KAUA'I, HAWAI'I

Hawaii was my big trip of 2000. We visited 3 of the 8 Hawaiian islands, but actually saw all 8, by air or sea. I have attached a picture of the AMAZING NaPali coast of the island of Kaua'i, as seen in Jurassic Park and other movies.

Q:What kind of Public Transport is there in Lihue? "That pretty much is the question. Someone mentioned Public Transport here. What kind of public transport is there?"
A: "I've never seen any while on Kaua`i and several different Google's revealed nothing. I even searched gohawaii.com and found nothing. Doesn't look like there is much..."
