Waimea Plantation Cottages: Not a typical hotel
This resort is completely different than most touristy hotels. It's not a typical resort with fancy restaurants and man-made statues..it's real. It's right on the beach..and you feel like you're right at home. The cottages used to be a plantation...so they're nothing fancy...but they're huge...and would be perfect for a big group or family. We had a 3 bedroom..b/c there were 3 single girls travelling...and it was perfect. We went trekking during the day...and it was close enough to get to the best hikes around. The restaurant on the premises was great...and the little town was charming.
If you like the fancy hotel thing..this would be not be you. But if you're like me...and you're tired of the man-made fake, "looks like every single other resort in the world" experience...this is a great find.
