We stayed at the Kamaole Sands in Kihei across from the Kihei Beach Park. It was a little condo type place with a pool and pretty landscaping. It was just across the street from a beach park.
I'm not sure of the one night rate, but it was considerably less expensive than a hotel and we had an apartment for the week. Kitchen was fully equipped. Clean, nice. Balcony. Partial ocean view.
Kamaole Sands in Kihei is basically an apartment complex (condominiums) that offers inexpensive accomodation but makes you feel at home. A home away from home, Kamaole Sands features single and double bedroom units with some of them facing the beaches of Kihei.
Kamaole Sands is also located centrally on the South Kihei Road which is closer to shops and restaurants, yet offers a very quiet and peaceful setting away from the crowds in the evenings/nights. The condominium units come with air conditioner, refridegator, fully equipped kitchen, television and other amenities. The cost is very reasonable and they also offer a great discount through the Entertainment Guide of Hawaii. All the rooms come with balconies and so try getting a room that faces the beaches of Kihei. The swimming pool is not big but nice and the atmosphere inside the complex is quiet and peaceful. All guests get a reserved parking spot and so one doesnt have to run around trying to find a parking space.
The front desk can also help with organized tours as they have a counter that deals with them. Single bedroom units come with a couch-cum-bed in addition to the bed at the bedroom.
We rented a 3 bedroom, 3 bath condo at Kamaole Sands Resort, in Kihei, from mauialoha.com. Reservations were made online and confirmed by phone. Nick and Betty at Mauialoha were very friendly and accommodating, allowing us to check in early and leave late with no extra charges. The condo was spacious and clean and had AIR CONDITIONING! Kamaole Sands has a good sized pool and whirlpools as well. There were numerous common BBQ areas which we never had a problem using when we wanted to. For a group, this was definitely the way to go, rather than separate hotel rooms. Kamaole Sands is right across the street from a really great beach! The waves were fantastic and you could see Molokini and the Big Island of Hawaii in the distance. And there were boogie boards in the condo free for guests to use. There was a full kitchen, which helped to keep our food budget down, as well as a TV and DVD player. The 2005 high season weekly rate for this 3-bedroom, 3 bath condo was $239 plus tax per night, plus a one time $130 cleaning fee.
Stayed at the kamaole sands 8/04. We were pleasantly surprised by how nice the room and grounds were. We did not have daily maid service as we were booked through maui condo and homes which did not offer daily service. I did notice that some units did have service and when I inquired about it I was told that it depended on which management co. did the booking. Apparently, if this is important you should inquire when unit is booked. Our unit had everything we needed so we did not miss the service. It was helpful to stop at costco which is near the airport to stock up on our way there. After six days here we went to the Maui Westin for six more days. We were cramped and price gouged (breakfast buffet 22.95). The whole family agreed it was better at the K. Sands especially the better beaches from here and south to Wailea and Makena. The variety of great resturants in this area was also nice when we chose to dine out.
We just got back from Maui, stayed 11 fabulous days and totally loved it. If I had any complaints it was only that the pool rules are a bit strict. But you know, other than that the room was great, the grounds were awsome and the staff was there to help. The beach is across the street and shopping everyhwhere. Big Beach was the best, but the waves are HUGE, so be careful with little ones.

We stayed in 9-204 in June 2004. We arrived to find the floor and patio filthy dirty. The smell of mildew was overpowering. We contacted the place that we booked through and they promised to send someone to take care of the smell and wash the floor. NO ONE EVER SHOWED UP. The location was great but I would NEVER stay here again. We spent the least amount of time possible in our condo. We were very disappointed.
We had a wonderful stay !! The rooms were spotless, fresh towels and sheets, and were cleaned daily. We had everything we needed to cook if we wanted to. The view of the pool and the ocean were excellent. We stayed in #3-204

Any suggestions on which condos it might be?
There are a bunch. We stayed at Kamaole Sands, which was fine. Nothing special. Clean, had everything we needed: Full kitchen, common BBQ areas outside, pool. The beach was about a few minutes walk across the property and boy, that beach was awesome! I'd definitely do it again!
Most of the condo's across the street from the beach in Kihei are, well kind of boring to me. Very basic. But crossing S. Kihei Road is no big deal. In some cases you are closer to the beach than staying at some of the bigger resorts.
I believe it is the Kamaole Sands.
