Hi:
My fiance and I am going to Maui for a week from May 1st to May 8th this year. We are in a tight budget and are looking for some cheap places to stay (for less than $80 per night). Anybody has any recommendations? We are looking for a clean and quiet place to stay. We will have a rental car, so the location of the place will not be a major problem. Thanks in advance :)
Our family stayed at the Hula Inn in Pukalani, which had rooms around $75/night. Unfortunately, I don't believe the house is being used as a B&B anymore (a shame, since it was great). I would check out Pukalani, Makaowo, Haliimaile for reasonable accommoations. These towns are central to the island, up toward the crater, which means you get great views, a cool breeze, and not as many tourists. Peace of Maui might be a good place to start. Their rooms may be more like $100/night. You might also check out Kula, which is even farther up the crater.
Paia (where there are fun shops and affordable restaurants) and the north shore are a short drive from these locations. The south shore (Kihei, etc., was more like a half hour). The western, most touristy part of the island was definitely a longer trip by car. However, if you're on a budget, it's not where you'd want to hang out. Expensive shops. Lots of hotels.

Aloha, the least expensive way to go is in a Hostel. You better book fast or there won't be room. There are two located in Wailuku. One is the Banana Bungalow and the other is North Shore Hostel. Check out North Shore at website:

With those timeshare places it all depends on how well the upkeep from the owners is. Let us know when you return if it really was a wonderful deal.
