Great place to stay in south Maui
We just returned from a 2 week stay in Maui and spent the first half at the Punahoa Beach Apts. It is a great place to stay. It is a small 4 story building right on the beach. The views from the lanai were amazing. It had a full kitchen and good size bathroom. The rates were a steal compared to the 'resort' type of rates. It was on a quiet side street as well. The place has decent snorkeling right out front and you can also easily walk to Kamaole beaches 1-3.
It was also nice because we could walk to restaurants and shops in about 5-10 minutes. The place was very well kept and the staff very friendly. I would return there if I go back to Maui. It is truly a great place to stay for the prices.
Unique Quality: great views, right on the water, easy walk to food and shopping.

Felt like home with beautful sunsets
We stayed at the Punahoa in April 2004 for 2 weeks. We would happily return on our next trip to Maui. Our unit seemed like home with a comfy living room and well-appointed kitchen. We loved our ocean-front lanai just steps from the water with the beautiful sunsets! The units are set up for "instant vacation" with beach chairs, books, beach towels, picnic cooler, etc. You just need to bring a swimsuit and food and you are all set! We liked the location of the Punahoa which is set off S. Kihei Road, a block away from the hustle and bustle, but you can still easily walk to restaurants and stores. This is a great place for travelers who want something other than a resort atmosphere.
