We had an apartment in the Kaanapali Villas - spacious with quite individual furnishing. They have got a swimming pool, too, as well as a restaurant where we enjoyed quite a few good meals.
Another good spot is the Napili Shores, again apartments, again with a (smaller) swimming pool and a lovely little restaurant. The rooms do not have air condition, though, and the beach is rather small.
$$$ to $$.

OK - THIS IS NOT MY FAVORITE PLACE TO STAY, BUT IT IS CHEAP! IF YOU'RE ON A TIGHT BUDGET, THIS IS ABOUT IT FOR CHEAP HOTELS. I CAN'T REMEMBER THE NAME OF IT, BUT IT'S RIGHT ON THE MAIN STRIP OF LAHAINA, YOU CAN'T MISS IT! IT'S THE ONLY HOTEL ON THE STRIP AND IT LOOKS ANCIENT. IT IS THE OLDEST HOTEL ON THE ISLAND AND SUPPOSEDLY PIRATES DOCKED RIGHT OUTSIDE OF THE HOTEL AND STAYED IN THIS HOTEL! THE PICTURE IS FROM THE ROOM WITH THE OUTSIDE VIEW.
DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH IT IS NOW, BUT IN 1993 IT WAS ONLY $40!!!

I've stayed in condos and hotels. Condos are good for anything over a week, anything under a week and a hotel is perfect. On Kaanapali Beach there are hotels (Westin, Marriott, Hyatt, Sheraton, Kaanapali Beach Hotel) and condos (The Whaler and Kaanapali Ali'i). I've stayed in all of them and would reccomend all of them except the Kaanapali Beach Hotel, yuk!

Pioneer Inn (Best Western)
Pioneer Inn (Best Western)
A great location and value. Located at the waters edge in downtown Lahaina. This is one of the oldest hotels in Lahaina. Newly restored building was orginally built in 1901 and restored in 1997. This is a great location if your looking to stay were the action is in downtown Lahaina.

Kaanapali Beach Hotel: The most Hawaiian resort in Maui
Mention of Ka'anapali isn't complete without mention of the wonderful Ka'anapali Beach Hotel.
If you want the ultimate in state-of-the-art pampering, jet-setter discos and nightlife, overpriced snooty restaurants, and trendy fellow guests, then the KBH is NOT for you.
Instead, the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel specializes in providing a warm, genuinely friendly, and caring stay with the most thoroughly HAWAIIAN experience to be found in this area. After you admire the views of Lana'i and Moloka'i from the beach, turn around and face the series of developments. See all of the high rises and overblown excesses on this stretch of coast? See that gap just south of the Sheraton where comparatively low-rise buildings are fronted by palms? That's the KBH. You'll find honest and sincere Hawaiian music every night, occasional local Hawaiian groups meeting there, and staffers practicing their own dancing at breaks, right by their lobby desks. There is a heavy emphasis on employee education in Hawaiian culture, language and history, and it shows with a marvelous spirit and friendliness of service.
Bet you don't find any of that at the Hyatt or the Marriott! Heck, you could stay at the Royal Lahaina and pretend you're in Tucson, Tampa or Topeka (you won't be able to tell the difference).
The Ka'anapali Beach Hotel was the highlight of our family's recent Hawaiian vacation.
THIS is the resort with genuine "aloha" spirit.

We stayed at Kapalua Villas...
We stayed at Kapalua Villas and rented one of the many private, executive residences available during our visit.
The home we rented costs $3,500 (US) per night with a 5 night minimum. However, that price covers from 1 to 8 occupants. Mid-December to January 1 prices are HIGHER!
Immaculate 4 bedroom, 5 bath home with inground, heated pool and spa with spectacular ocean views! Kapalua Resort has 3 championship golf courses, 3 white sand beaches, 12 restaurants and lots of unique shopping.

Ohana Maui Islander: Maui Islander
Motel located 3 blocks from Front Street. Has a pool. Can have 1, 2 or 3 connecting rooms. If you get 2 or 3 rooms, you will also get an efficiency kitchenette. Beautiful landscaping. Great view of the west Maui mountain range. 3 blocks from the shore. Standard motel rooms with air conditioning and TV.
Clean, quiet, and inexpensive accomodations. We will probably stay at this motel again. The more expensive resorts that are located nearby run from $200 to $900 a night. We obtain good room prices for our single room through our vacation package.

Celebrity Century: An Incredible Skye Suite
My wife and I cruised to Hawaaii in February 2013 aboard the Celebrity Century for my 40th Birthday. We chose to stay in one of the Skye Suites. I have to say I loved our room. The location, the size and the huge balcony were amazing. Century is a smaller and older ship in the Celebrity fleet but everythhing in the room was comfortable and clean.
The highlight of our trip was the butler service. Our butler took care of all of our needs aboard the ship. We had unlimited champagne, beverages, fresh flowers in the room and afternoon tea daily. Our butler even sent us dessert to the room every night as a sweet ending to the day.
The balcony for the most part really wasn't worth it until we hit the islands. The crossing from San Diego was rather rough, cold and for the most part rainy so we didn't stay outside long. Once in Hawaii we used the balcony alot; especially when passing by the Big Island at night and watching the lava flow into the ocean...that was a Wow for me. I also loved our morning in Maui; watching the humpback whales giving me a show right in front of our balcony.
