ferry to other islands

by carolyng

Where can I catch a ferry to Molokai or Lanai and how much is it ?

Most leave driectly from downtown Lahaina near Banyan Tree park. We did the all day trip out to Lanai a few years ago. Unless it has changed Lanai is a private island and our trip took us to a private beach and included water sports, food, kind of like a Club Med. I think we paid about $45.

Aloha. There are all types of charters and ferry rides to Lana'i and to Moloka'i. Check before you go, all the sales kiosks at Lahaina Harbor, in Lahaina. Some are more expensive than others and some not worth the price for what you get. I have tried both and it is worth a little more to get a good trip to either Island. Try the website: www.hawaiiactive.com click on Maui, then click on Day Trips to other Islands. The Moloka'i tours have just a boat over and back, plus tours. The tours are better, unless you rent a 4x4 and know where to go. Not that much to see or do, but enjoy the beauty and the solitude. What more do you need in paradise. Aloha oe.

I want to go to molokai as well. I want to leave around nine AM of April 04. And return around three. Does anyone know if this is possible. Or if there is some kind of a guided tour that can take me to the highest sea cliffs in the world?

We were just on Maui in February and every morning we saw the ferry leaving from Lahana to Molokai.

Travel Tips for Lahaina

get yourself a cup of coffee...

by smoox

get yourself a cup of coffee from the Bad Ass Coffee shop. Mmmmmmmmhhhhh... Then walk across the street and enjoy the view of the sea, with the old sailing ship Carthaginian in what was once Hawaii´s busiest harbor (whalers!).

More Seafood!

by cfwestbe about Lahaina Fish Co.

Another seafood restaurant located right on the shore. Is a little more upscale than Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. This restaurant also had windows open with the breeze blowing through the restaurant. I had the seafood platter (I get the most variety that way)!

If you have a car, drive up...

by kahiwa

If you have a car, drive up towards Napili. Eventually, you'll come to a sign that this is the end of the road. You can continue on and actually drive all the way around to the other side of Wailuku, but it's a bit of a treacherous ride.

If you come to the end of the road sign, turn around and start coming back toward Lahaina. Stop your car along the side of the road and walk toward the edge of the cliffs. You will see some breathtaking views of the ocean, and of sheer cliffs being buffeted by waves. If you look up or down the coast line, you can get some great photos of the craggy cliffs and crashing waves.
Great photo opportunity.

Maui - No Ka Oi! And I mean it!

by smoox

Of the Hawaiian islands, I like Maui best. The island consists of two volcanoes, one ancient and the other one active still in historical times. Legends tell of the semi-god Maui who caught the sun on top of Mount Haleakala, and Haleacala is certainly a distinctive sight!
