Polynesian Shores "No Kai Oi"

My family and I had the most spectacular time in Maui. Greg Salmon the owner on unit 126 at Polynesian Shores provided us with some great tips for our trip. We drove around the west side. Did a early morning sunrise at mount haleakala. We snorkeled at mile 14. We even went on a pacific whale foundation whale watch. The best thig was the Deck over the ocean. Word cannot describe this. We spent each evening down on the deck BBQing our diner and watching the sunset. We met some wonderfull people there who seem to come each year. We already booked for next Whale season. Thanks Greg

Great Property but BEWARE Units #126 & #113 & Greg

While Polynesian Shores is a wonderful property and top-notch location, BE FOREWARNED if you deal with units #113 or #126. Rentals are handled by Greg Salmon on behalf of his parents who own these units. We stayed in the 2-bedroom #126. Greg gives erroneous information (specific location of unit; Lanai [3,193 per 2000 Census] and Molokai [7,404 per 2000 Census] are uninhabited; no motorcycle rentals on Maui [personally saw over a half-dozen outlets]); rental agreement sent a couple days after I contacted him about availability & said I wanted to book the unit, then had wrong dates & number of nights & price was hiked from that quoted on their website. Took numerous phone calls/e-mails over ten-day period just prior to arrivel to obtain access information. Told by other condo owners at this property that Greg is known to overbook/overlap rentals and some folks arrive with no access info. He & parents spent the prior week up to the morning of our arrival staying in #126, then told cleaning lady and others they had left it “immaculate” for us. Examples of “immaculate” for our $150 cleaning fee: counters/tables undusted; floors unmopped; dirty & badly soiled towels - some of what we thought were “stains” came out after having used and laundered them; mirrored walls had smudges/drips/streaks; sizeable long-dead gecko under one chair; broken glass on vanity counter; bathroom throw rug filthy - shook it out in the shower the morning after our evening arrival and massive amount of lint/hair/sand/whatever fell into tub. Other issues with unit #126: hot water heater element out, couldn’t even finish a “Navy” shower; livingroom drape wouldn’t close; glass & screen patio doors (two each) worn so badly they were EXTREMELY hard to open - owner told ME to apply cooking oil to tracks; television NOT high-def despite statement on their website; 2 of 3 smoke detectors non-functional; 7 of 25 recessed overhead lights in various stages of “hanging” from ceiling; many of the plastic glasses had cracks and leaked; dishwasher almost made it through first load before it quit working; guest bath sink leaked and neither sink nor tub drain would close; master bedroom door wouldn’t latch, no working remote for TV (Greg said “I know”), short in dresser lamp wiring so unplugged it to avoid fire (owner agreed it needed to be replaced), large section of screening torn loose from louvered windows allowing birds to fly in, no drape on wall-to-wall window (this was corner unit with the grounds/pool/beach access walkway just outside the bedroom). And there were other issues. Once again, Polynesian Shores is an awesome property and unit #126 is one of the most prime locations on Maui, but BEWARE of renting this unit (or #113 with same owners). Note: we have stayed in other units at this property before, without issues.

The information here is good, however it will either:-
Be deleted, because it is not a question.
Or
It will be lost as it vanishes down the travel forum.

May I suggest that you write it up as a travel tip, on your travel pages here at VT?
Once it is written up, it can be viewed by other members.

You would make a great tip out of this with a photo, address, and phone number and put the tip on your Maui page under "Accommodations". The Travel Forum is to ask a question? Where is the question? Now, it looks like an ADVERTISEMENT
