Great Little Gem in West Maui
by monsterjay about The Mauian
Located just north of Kaanapali and Lahaina in Napili. This is a great choice for accomodations on Maui's West side of the island. Conveniently close to busy Lahaina but still away from the crowds. Upon arriving it should be noted that there are a couple of the rooms that they are renovating and remodeling. Facility doesn't look to be the best from the outside but the rooms were totally redesigned and remodeled similar to a fancy boutique hotel that one would fine sprucing up around their own downtown area.
Many of the rooms had half kitchen areas, full walk-out patios, brand new furniture and bedding, and all rooms are just feet away from the Napili Beach where one can find some good body boarding and snorkeling. Breakfast was also provided in the mornings. Don't expect all the bells & whistles here that you would find at your five star hotel. Do expect warm hospitality, brand new rooms that will make your jaw drop at what a steal it was on a per night basis. Hotel gave you free breakfast from 7:30am to 9:00am. Beach towels were provided as well as key to access beach chairs to lay out. Bathrooms were amazingly clean and brand new, excellent location as you are literally only 15 minutes away from Lahaina. Much quieter part of town instead of the high volume and highly priced hotels you will find in Lahaina. Also about 50 yards from the hotel is a nice little convenience store and also Snorkel Bob's which has amazing snorkel rental equipment and deals, and takes excellent care of each person that walks thru their doors.
Iao Valley and Kahalawa'i
by TeaInChina
A trip to Iao Valley and into the West Maui mountains is a welcome relief from the typical tourist activities of Maui. There are sign posts that explain some of the Mauian mythology and ideas about the area and the Iao Needle.
Magnificent Maui
by Albernfrau
Please read my travelogue for a day by day account of our trip!
My Mum took me to Maui when I was 5 years old and again when I was 8. Although I was quite young certain things about Maui never left me--the warm breeze, the waves crashing and the sweet smell of the Mauian breeze. I knew that one day I would return to turn these memories into reality again. Twenty-three years later (April 2006) I finally returned; this time with my husband. Once again my senses were overloaded. I think the overwhelming sensory stimuli is what makes Maui never leave you. You are forever permeated with the sights, sounds, smells and feelings from this magnificant place.
Smells of Maui:
The sweet fragrance from the pikake blooms.
The unique smell of the soft sand.
Sounds of Maui:
Waves crashing
Birds singing
Wind through the palm trees
Sights of Maui:
Beaches and shorelines
Volcanoes
Underwater life
Feels? of Maui:
Warm breeze
Hot sun
10 days in Hawai'i

"Hawai'i - Big Island"
Flight from Seattle to Honolulu. Book flights in advance on Hawai'ian Airlines from Honolulu to Hilo. Other airlines offer very small jets and some people might not want to fly in such small planes (my wife didn't want to). Stayed at Kiluaea Lodge near the Volcanoes National Park. Excellent hotel and restaurant! Great location to explore sights north of Hilo, south eastern part of Big Island and the National Park. Definitely visit the Hawai'i Botanical Gardens if you like flowers and native plants. After 3 days - drove from Kiluaea Lodge to Kona. Stopped at Punalu'u Black Sand Beach - excellent location for sea turtles and black volcanic sand unlike most beaches. Stay in Kona for 3 days - rented a condo. Kona has a great Hawai'ian feel. Great thai food just north of downtown. Snorkeling spots abound. Flight out of Kona (Keahole Airport) to Maui.
"Hawai'i - Maui"
Flight from Kona to Maui. Landed at Kahului airport, rented car and drove to Napili Bay on the north western coast. Great place to stay at the Mauian. Walk right out to snorkel just yards away with Snorkel Bob's rental a 2 minute walk next door to the hotel. Great customer service and very friendly. Restaurants nearby at Kapalu, Ka'anapali, and Lahaina. Flight out of Kahului to Honolulu to Seattle.
