Would recommend highly to people staying in maui. A beautiful Hotel/Resort, still one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at.
With a discount from American Airlines could pay less then $225.00 per night. Has a huge 87,000 square foot pool area with five heated pools all joined together. Also includes a 128 foot water slide and several waterfalls.

Had a Wonderful Stay at the Westin Maui!
by A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Westin Maui from August 31, 2003 to September 3, 2003.
We chose the Westin Maui mainly because we were familiar with the Heavenly Bed and Bath from our stays in Westin hotels at other cities.
In addition, the pictures of the pools, views, and rooms from their homepage assisted in making our choice. We also read the user reviews posted here and even though there were a few negative comments on this property, we believed that the comments would at least prepare and forewarn us for our stay (i.e., we expected a small room and lots of kids running around). However, we had a wonderful stay at this hotel!
We had a reservation for a Garden View Room but we were upgraded to a Partial Ocean View Room on a high floor without even asking! I don't know if this was related to me being a Starwood member or if our original room was not available since we arrived earlier than the check-in time of 3:00pm. The front desk staff were very friendly! Our room was a standard size and did not seem small at all. However, there was only two of us with one king bed and I can see that it may seem small to a family of four with two beds. The room was very clean and the bed was just so Heavenly! The pools and landscape were very pretty with various waterfalls which added to the resort feel. There were a few kids around but it was not too crowded (this could be mainly because it was back to school time). Whaler's Village is next door and includes a McDonald's, ABC, and more choices for restaurant dining.
(However, in all honesty, we ended up driving to the Aloha Mixed Plate (great view and affordable food!) in Lahaina at least 3 times during our stay.) The only concern I have and would like to forewarn is that this hotel does have limited self parking. However, we were fortunate to find a space every time we returned. The hotel does offer valet services but I'm not sure at what cost. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Westin Maui and would definitely return!

my family and i had two connecting rooms with a mountin view, the staff was excellent. but we like our privacy and wanted larger rooms. so after speaking with the front desk they upgraded us free of charge the there top suite that had 4 balconies, a living room, dining room, kitchen, an amazing walk in shower that could fit at least 20 people, jacuzzi tub. complete stereo system with complimentary cd's. they also stocked the fridge with water bottles and fresh pineapple daily. and the view was unbelievable, the room was on the top floor, and we could wacth the sun rise and set from any room. the main entrance leads you to a lagoon with waterfalls, fish and flamingos. there's three pools, jacuzzi, water slides, and a massage area at the top of it all overlooking the ocean. the beach was a 30 second walk from the hotel, and it is also next to a little shopping mall where they gave nightly shows of Hawaiian dancers. luckily when i went a store was closing at the mall and i was able to buy pearl jewelry at 90% off. and sold most of it when i came back. i spent 200$ and made 4,000$ pretty good deal. it was definitely the best hotel i've ever stayed in.
If you like crowds......

We stayed on the West side of Maui for our first week. I love Westin Hotels and I thought this would be a good choice. The room was super small and dark. Our room faced a wall. Granted, it was a wall of beautiful plants and flowers, but it made the room seem cavelike. The bed was fabulous and the shower, well, heavenly. My husband and I awoke early every morning and were still surrounded by hundreds of families and controlled chaos. We couldn't wait to leave the hotel each day. The beach is okay, we never swam there. There are too many secluded, colorful beaches nearby. The shopping was fun right around the corner from the hotel and there are several restaraunts along the walking path.
Fabulous Maui Resort
by Bifnreg about Westin Maui
It is the absolutely beautiful tropical gardens and pool system, complete with waterfalls that sets this Ka'anapali beach resort apart from the rest. Furnished with koi, flamingoes, parrots and swans, the area off the lobby introduces you to what you feel is going to be a beautiful relaxing getaway. The adult pool on the upper level is a haven overlooking the ocean. The kids have a couple of pools to entertain them below. I think there are 5 pools all told and the very swimmable ocean is just a few steps away. There is snorkeling to be had just off the breakwater.
We got a 3rd night free deal including breakfast buffet for avg 287 per night and worth every penny. The breakfast buffet is usually $27 each. Room 229 is ground level garden and you can actually step over a low wall and up a little hill directly to the pool area. I recommend it. Friendly, lovely, unobtrusive service, activities for kids great location.
Drinks are expensive in the bar so we brought our own or sought out happy hours.
You can book all your Maui activities, whale watching, snorkeling etc right at the hotel.

"The Hotel"
We have stayed at the Westin Maui on two seperate occasions. In 1995, we stayed for a three night stay on our honeymoon. And back in 1999, we traveled back to Hawaii with our family and spent four nights at the Westin. The Westin Maui remands one of our favorite hotels anywhere. I have never paid full price, look for special discount or ask about their great rates.
Check-out their homepage at Westin Homepage
There are many beautiful waterfalls throughout the Resort. This waterfall is located at the main reception area.
The Westin has five heated pools all joined together and also includes several water slides. The 87,000 sq. foot pool area has something for everyone.
There is eight restaurants and lounges with in the complex.
There is something for everyone at the Westin to keep you entertained.
This was the view from our garden room. Ocean view room are much higher in price. We have stayed in Garden view room both times at the Westin. When we travel we are on a budget. But as you can see, still a excellent view, especially for a couple from Chicago.
Another view off of our balcony. The building you see are the Marriot and other high end hotels along the Kaanapali Beach.
The rooms all include many extra's including coffee maker, private bar, and private lanai.
"The Courtyard"
When staying at the Westin plan time for a nice romantic walk through the huge courtyards.
The grounds are elegantly maintained and make for great ambience for your romantic stroll.

Hyatt Maui vs. Westin Maui
by swdke
Which is the better choice between the Hyatt and Westin on Maui? Which might have the larger standard rooms, better beach location, bigger pool, most tropical setting? Thanks for your help.

Rooms at Westin. Beach is the same. Pool Hyatt, Tropical neither really but the Hyatt has more flora.

If you're not on your honeymoon, and don't miss chocolates on your pillow, I think you will enjoy the Westin better. The location, next door to the Whaler's village, should not be overlooked. If, however, you are looking for a destination resort, will spend more time in the pool, than on the beach, and have no qualms about a $4 cans of coke from the minibar, the Hyatt might be a better choice for you.
(disclaimer: I don't really remember the price for soda from the minibar.)

The Sheraton would be my choice on Kaanapali Beach as a hotel. The Kaanapali Alii as a condo with the Whaler right behind
