Hotel Molokai: Experience Old Hawaii
Hotel Molokai is an old fashioned Polynesian accommodation located right on the shores of Kamiloloa Beach and just minutes away from Kaunakakai town. The small low rise hotel is not real fancy but it is clean and moderately priced. For the money, the oceanfront rooms are worth spending a little extra. There is also a nice oceanfront restaurant and lounge that has nightly Live Hawaiian entertainment.

Paniolo Hale: Nicest Condos on the Island
The Paniolo Hale Townhouses are the nicest on the island. Located on the west end of the island adjacent to the Kaluakoi Resort and on the water. Roomy, clean and very well stocked, each unit has it's own screened in lanai. The complex is small and spread out with tennis courts and a nice pool. The resort is within easy walking distance with their restaurant and bar.
Unique Quality: Screened in lanais overlooking the beach with great sunsets and a view of Oahu.

A'Ala Hale: Our favorite vacation rental home
I debated putting this on VT as I want to be sure it is available next time I'm ready and able to get to Molokai'i. But being a good VT-er means sacrificing for the good of the whole - right? We almost bought this house in 1992, but backed out when we realized we didn't want to tie ourselves down to coming to the same place each vacation. We have kicked ourselves on numerous occasions for not making the leap.
Ever find a place that is just life altering? I know it may sound new age, but this house just sucks the tension out of you. We have stayed here twice, once for a week and the second time for three weeks. A great house right on the water overlooking the channel and the island of Lanai. You can also see Lahiana from the water's edge. Only 4.5 miles from town and yet you really feel away from civilization. The locations puts you exactly half way between the dry and the wet ends of the islands - best of both worlds.
Usually by day two, someone comes to the house with fresh flowers.
2 bedrooms, 2 bath, and a sleeper sofa in the living room, the house is open and airy - built in the traditional Hawaiian style so the tradewinds keep it cool. Master bedroom is large with a sunken shower stall. A large Lanai with table, chairs, and a bed for lounging. Each of our stays, we have had a hard time doing anything but lounging. And something rare for Hawaiian homes - no roaches! The ants will come if you don't keep the kitchen clean - but that is fairly mild for the tropics.
The well stocked kitchen is ready to go with pots, pans, and all the trimmings. There is a BBQ in the back yard. The yard goes to the water's edge, with just a 3 foot wide swath pebbly beach. The water here is shallow and you can walk out the half mile to the reef. Not very good for snorkeling once the trades pickup mid-morning. The neighbors are friendly and might even take you out night fishing on the reef if you ask nicely.

Unique Quality: The lanai is large and well furnished and overlooks the water. Beware - it gets real hard to get out of your chair and away from that view and do anything. Never been so relaxed in my life.

Beach Bungalows
Dotted all along the southern coastline of Moloka'i are private beach getaways, little retreats put out for rent month by month or day to day.
The bulk of them can be found east of the historic town of Kaunakakai. The farther east you head, the quieter things get. If you keep your eyes open you'll spot 'for rent' signs pegged along the roadside. take a pause, turn inside and check out the options. but keep in mind that there are more options th further down you go.

Kamalo Plantation: Romantic cottage hidden in a tropical garden
We stayed for 7 nights at the Kamalo cottage, it was perfect for our needs; king size bed, full kitchen,small dining/living area and a washroom.There is a small deck on the front and a BBQ hut just a few feet from the cottage. A fully equipted facility from dishes, salt/pepper, spices, to towels, shampoo, sun screen etc... all you need to provide yourself with is food and drink. There is NO TV (which we really appreciated), but there was a tape/disc player for listening to music (the cottage even came with local Hawaiian tapes/disc's, it was great). The cleanliness was a bit to be desired, but certainly not unhygenic by any means. A very cozy and comfortable place to enjoy a true quiet, Hawaiian holiday.
Unique Quality: The tropical garden in which the cottage sits in the centre of, is breathtaking to say the least! Many exotic flowers and birds as well as banana,mango and papaya tree's. I think what stands out the most is the symphony of exotic birds that sing from sunrise to sun set...absolutly astounding, I could listen for hours!

Kaluakoi Villas: The Best View in Paradise
Not a traditional hotel but a condominium complex overlooking Kepuhi Bay. These are spacious, privately owned, fully equipped villas, managed by Castle Resorts and Hotels. Fortunately, our condo had a fully equipped kitchen. We bought groceries and enjoyed cooking some of our own meals on Moloka since the choice of restaurants is so few, and most of those few were many miles away. It was a wonderful relaxing experience and we would definitely stay here again.
Unique Quality: Seclusion and a beach to take your breath away!!! There is a golf course, nice swimming pool and a couple of shops, including a little grocery store if you decide to prepare some of your own meals as we did. There is no restaurant at the resort.

Hotel Moloka'i: Molokai's Only Hotel (8/03)
Excellent service. Highly recommended. On the beach facing Lanai. Pool, pool bar, restaurant, activities desk. Pricey but idyllic. Breathtaking view. Paradise. You can rent a condo elsewhere for as little as $80 a night, rooms here are $140 oceanfront, otherwise $120 . The hotel on the west end closed shortly after ferry service from Oahu ended. There is also a Sheraton Resort in Mauna Loa, a rustic lodge that also rents those round Mongolian style tents.
Unique Quality: Friday, Saturday, Sunday @ happy hour the local musicians gather @ the pool deck as if on cue to make the most beautiful Hawaiian music. Free. Sometimes on Saturday night there is a hired band ("Mo' Bettah" is the best, say hello to Rick the haole fireman, request they play "Moloka'i Cowboy'). For a very sleepy Island the Hotel is where it's happening when it's happening.

Papohaku Beach: Free camping
It is possible to pitch a tent for free on the lawn of a picnic spot at one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
They even have clean and working ablution facilities.

Ke Nani Kai: Fully equipped condos
There are not many options on the island. All accommodation options are in one area on the west coast, but it still feels remote and quiet.
The condos at Ke Nani Kai are comfortable with a modern kitchen, bed room, bathroom and veranda.
Unique Quality: Beautiful pool, great location not far from wonderful deserted beaches.
