More about AQUA Honolulu Prince
Let's go again!

The Aqua Waikiki Pearl has an excellent staff and comfortable rooms that make you feel right at home. The amenities provided (television, microwave, & internet service in the lobby) were very useful & appreciated. Upon arrival, our pomeranian Snowy was welcomed by manager Kalei with treats, a toy, blanket, food & water bowls, & some much needed doggie pads. The best thing our family liked about the Aqua Waikiki Pearl is that it's a "pet-friendly" hotel & the staff made us all feel welcome!
I recommend this hotel

The Aqua Waikiki Pearl is conveniently located in the heart of Waikiki. We didn't spend a lot of time in our room but the staff was very friendly, especially Cesare & Mike. The rates are good for an average Waikiki hotel. House keeping could have come more frequently but I would definitely stay there again.
My new home away from home

I had the pleasure of staying at the Aqua Waikiki Pearl for a total of 10 days and truly had a great stay there. For the first week, I was there with two friends in their double queen room, and was in a one bedroom suite for Labor Day Weekend. The first room was a very generous size, almost 500 sq ft, had a mini-fridge and decent size bathroom. The suite was bigger, not sure exactly how big, but was basically a one bedroom condo with a kitchen! As their website will tell you, they just recenlty completed renovating their rooms from top to bottom and it shows. I was a little worried at first, because of the older reviews of The Pearl from before their renovation weren't as glowing, but I have a strong feeling that will change now for sure. The best part of my stay there easily would be the Aqua Pearl's staff and the wonderful customer service they provide. Despite the modest size of the Pearl, there was ALWAYS somebody at the lobby desk, no matter the time of night, and they were always friendly and welcoming. After 10 days there, I knew most of them by name, Mike, Kalei, Harry, Wayne, Robin, and the really cool two lobby folks who seemed to man the desk into the wee hours of the morning when I came in from a long night out. They were always so helpful, that Robin even gave me her own bottle of conditioner she had on her when I needed some. That's customer service, something you're definitley hard-pressed to find these days anywhere, let alone a very nice, yet modest place like the Aqua Waikiki Pearl. I would definitley recommend it to anybody looking for a no frills, yet still hidden gem of a place smack dab in the middle of everywhere at a VERY reasonable price. Just to be fair, I should mention that if quiet is a high priority for your stay, you might take issue because of the median age of the other hotel guests being younger, and if you face the street, you will get some traffic noise, but nothing my hearos didn't take care of easily. I hope to visit again next summer!
Quick Stay

I would recommend this hotel to others. Before I got to Hawaii I read the reviews and was scared because everyone complained about noise. However, in my opinion its no worse than city noise. Other than that we have one of the larger rooms which was great size for 3 people but they didnt have a pool (WHO NEEDS ONE WHEN YOU HAVE THE BEACH 2 BLOCKS AWAY!!). The location and price where great we stayed there for 2 nights.
Worth coming back - great value

My friend and I stayed here over memorial day weekend. The rooms were recently updated, very clean. Staff was very helpful and friendly and the location was great - just a few blocks from the beach. Definitely an excellent value for what you get. The only thing that I didn't like was that the hotel didn't seem to have Wi-fi throughout the hotel.
Great location, beautifully renovated suites, great staff!

Our suite had 2 bedrooms and a HUGE bathroom. The rooms were extremely clean and comfortable. We enjoyed being so close to the beach, just a couple blocks away. Diamond Head and Kapiolani Park were also close by. With 3 teenagers, we appreciated the grocery store just around the corner and made good use of our kitchen. The staff were friendly and helpful. The internet access in the reception area was appreciated, and a special thanks to the desk clerk who so kindly printed up our boarding passes the evening before our early morning flight. I highly recommend this place. Great value!

My wife and family really enjoyed our stay and were excited about the size of our room @ #204. The room was clean and bathroom as well. I can't say enough about ' Mike Singh '. He went out of his way to see that I knew where to go as far as directions and was more than helpful. Mike is the example of great customer service. Thank you for him.
With much gratitude,

Stayed there for 2 nights after we checked out of out time share. Had never stayed there before and was concerned when our room was on the back side facing the Ohana West, which can get loud. But it was perfect, no noise, the renovated rooms were well done and everything was fresh and clean. Loved the mini fridge and microwave. The staff were all very nice and we got late check out at no extra charge. would not hesitate to stay there again. Great Place and great location!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oahu Hawaii

If you're looking for a quiet beach get-away, I'd steer clear of Honolulu and Oahu in general, although we did find a couple of secluded beaches by getting away from Waikiki. Pearl Harbor is, of course, a very moving experience and Sunset Beach is famous for its huge waves (in season). You should look into flying over the the active volcano on Hawaii (the Big Island), and snorkeling in Hanauma Bay. Next time, we'll look to "home base" on Maui or one of the other quieter islands. We found Waikiki Beach just too crowded for our taste. I think some people might enjoy it, however, because it is definietly the "hub" of activity.
Vacation in Paradise

"Twelve days in paradise"
We spent 4 days on Oahu; enjoying the beach, restaurants & shops on Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, Chinatown, Ioni Palace & downtown, the North shore, Dole Plantation, Diamond Head. We boarded NCL's Pride of Aloha for a seven day cruise exploring Maui, Kauai, as well as Hilo & Kona, on the Big Island. We weren't impressed with the cruise but we appreciated the fact that we could explore a lot of islands in a shorter amount of time.

Puka Dogs
by rmdw
I heard this placed discussed on the radio: http://www.pukadog.com
Has anyone tried it? If so, what do you think? In terms of overall taste and enjoyment, how do these hot dogs compare to ones you've tried in other cities?

Hi Robert
Years ago, I saw a documentary on how they make hot dogs. I have not had one since then :-)

It is basically a mild polish sausage with mango relish and lilikoi mustard, Just a litte Hawaiian marketing gimmick, however they are pretty tasty.....d;o)

We tried them in Kauai -- I was pretty underwhelmed, and the relishes were too sweet. I overheard other people eating saying they were overrated as well.
In all honestly, I think you'd do better at grill your own polish sausage at home. I would compare the experience to having the mediocre clam chowder in a sourdough loaf in San Francisco.

Actually, we were much happier with the hot dog at Costco in Lihue!
