Location isn't everything

This is the first hotel we stayed at in Hawaii. It is a little walk from the beach, but the rooms are large and comfortable which makes up for it.

JOY WAIKIKI

I do really like the location Actually when you walk out the door you are right in the middle of foot traffic of Waikiki. The sounds of the busyness are upon you.
I have played Jazz there and I do remember they have nice Karaoke rooms upstairs ..The Hotel rooms are O.K. also! The ResortQuest Waikiki Joy Hotel (Aston is now ResortQuest) is a small, boutique-style property located off Kuhio Avenue and two blocks from the beach. This hotel is for the traveler
wanting a quiet ambiance . The complex amenities include a pool, sauna, restaurant, cocktail lounge, fitness center (fee), concierge, activity desk and daily complimentary continental breakfast. There is also valet parking for a fee.

The junior suites and one bedroom units have a full kitchen and all rooms offer air conditioning, jacuzzi tub, color cable TV, entertainment stereo system, shower/tub combination, coffee-maker and a hair dryer.

ResortQuest Waikiki Joy Hotel is a suitable choice for business travelers and couples wanting accommodations with some cooking facilities. There are many restaurants nearby as well as the International Marketplace which is just 2 blocks away
THERE IS A THREE NIGHT MINIUM STAY AT THE HOTEL,.. SIX DAYS COULD BE ABOUT $850 FOR ON LINE..PURCHASES....

Unique Quality: The small restaurant /bar lounge ,reminds me of the street cafe in Paris, France. This place is right next to, there again ,the street{Lewers St}
There is a pool in the back .Small but O.K.
There again a good pivot point for venturing out to the world of Waikiki!!!

Accommodation

by AnnieNannie

Hi everyone, thanks for your help in advance. My husband and I are coming over from Australia and we arrive on 27 May 2006 and leave the next night - so we have acouple of days to spend doing stuff.
1. we need good, clean, cheap accommodation probably near the beach
2. what is the weather like then
3. what do you suggest we do. We are just 50 years young and want to experience as much as possible in the short time we have.
4. what do you suggest we bring? anything as a 'must bring'

Important: In case you didn't know, you will be arriving during the Memorial Day Weekend. It is a popular weekend for travel, so make sure to make reservations for everything well in advance.

The weather in Hawaii is always the same, beautiful, so don't worry.

If you arrive before lunch, head straight for the hike up Diamond Head. There is a small fee, but it is the best view of Waikiki and should only take you an hour or two at most.

If you don't need a full service resort, I suggest the Aston Waikiki Joy Hotel, ~$150/night

It is a 5 minute walk to several beaches.

Higher budget options, (if you want to lay on the beach,) include:
The Hilton Hawaiian Village - http://www.hiltonhawaiianvillage.com/
JW Marriott Ihilani - http://www.ihilani.com/
The Kahala Mandarin Oriental - http://www.mandarinoriental.com/hotel/531000002.asp

It may be mostly for tourists, but if you have never been to a Luau, you should not miss this opportunity. Sunday morning is a great time to visit China Town.

It is almost a crime to stay in Hawaii less than 48 hours. I hope you enjoy your time here.

Thanks so much Patrick for all that info and thanks for the tip about the holiday weekend. I know we would love to stay longer but we are travelling through on a world trip.

Are there any 'events' happening for Memorial weekend?
Also, we need really cheap accommodation - even B & B is ok...clean bed and shower/toilet - it's only for one night afterall.
Cheers
Annie
