Tattoo Shops

by SFHulaGIrl

Any suggestions for tattoo shops in the Waikiki area that do Polynesian/tribal tattoos, take credit cards & take walk-ins? I'm not looking for anything too exorbitant, though!

Larry "travelgourmet" knows better than I do, but I have been to Hart & Huntington with a friend and I was impressed with those guys.

I am still considering getting a "sleeve", but with old Viking patterns, and they were all up for helping me get it done. I chickened out then, but I am not yet done with the idea.

Travel Tips for Honolulu

This Week Oahu

by Rixie

There's a free tourist publication called This Week Oahu that you can pick up from stands all over Waikiki. Check out the activities listings for the week, and also take a look at the coupons in the booklet.

I was surprised that I was actually able to use a couple of the coupons: one for a free appetizer at a Waikiki restaurant, and one for a free Hawaiian music CD when shopping at certain stores. Every little bit helps, right? Plus, I'm enjoying the CD.

Free, Fun Stuff to Do

Free lessons are offered for hula dancing, lei making, ukulele, and even quilting at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center in Waikiki, Oahu. Their website has all the information under "Entertainment".
Free, live musical shows are put on under the large banyan tree just down Kalakaua St. from the shopping center. The shows feature local artists and begin at sundown with a torch ceremony. The beautiful sunset in the far horizon is without charge too. Sitting on the beach lawn listening to the calming tones of hawaiian guitars as hula dancers sway.

Visit the ala moana shopping center, an open air shopping center. The north shore is a good tipe if you want to see the surfspirit of th isalnd and if you want to experience the underwaterworld go with bus 22 from waikiki center to Hanauma Bay. IN ONE WORD THE BEACHES.

Hanuma Bay

This is a beautiful bay at the base of a cliff a few miles from Honolulu, it has live coral and lots of colourful fish in the shallow water of the bay, it ideal for snorkelling. My best memory is of the drives we did around the island of Oahu, particularly on the east side of the island. Honolulu itself is a nice city and my favorite memory of it is probably the markets, there was one in the town and another one is held at the sports arena a couple of times a week, this one had more bargains but the other was much prettier.

I love the kindness of the locals, the beautiful islands, the emphasis on health, the wonderful asian food as well as the fresh fish, and the great personal services available here. I miss my friends and everything that is here.
