Deceased WWII Navy Vets. Ashes

by tbake00

I am visiting Pearl Harbor soon and want to spread a small amount of my fathers ashes. I want to know if it is legal.

Thank You

You know, wouldn't worry about it. Many people who spread ashes do so secretly so if no one knows, no one can care. As long as you can get the remains through security (if you're flying) I think you could quietly have your personal little ceremony while no one is looking.

Aloha, my condolences. If your father was on the USS Arizona or other ships that were docked on Dec, 7 1941 in Pearl Harbor, there is a website that might help you. See website:http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM5QME_USS_Arizona_Memorial_Pearl_Harbor_HI

If you are bringing a small amount to scatter at sea, ask the Navy Department. Also here is another link for Hawaii: http://www.discoverhawaiitours.com/blog/tag/pearl-harbor-tours/

I trust this helps. Me ka aloha pumehana.

Perhaps there will also be cultural guidelines to consider with the indigenous people, I know there are where I live. Worth looking into anyway.

Aloha, This is one of many ash scattering in Hawaii videos but a Navy Veteran was the deceased so a Naval Ceremony was also included. See video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLTIys4wzHc

Travel Tips for Honolulu

The weather

by spitball

January 13th, 2008 @ 2:58 am, the weather and temperature in Hawaii is Partly Cloudy, 17 degrees C, if that doesn't get you considering taking off from your cold snowy location for a few weeks, I don't know what would.
03/12/08, 1:18 pm, now, cloudy and 20 degrees celsius!

Just a five hour flight from the west coast of North America, and you're there!

Diamond Head--Hope you're in shape!

by jkfisme

The view from the top of Diamond Head is AMAZING!! Be prepared to walk, though. Take a big bottle of water and a camera. Once you get inside the crater it's so crowded, a backpack just gets in the way. Pack light. I miss the weather, and the laid-back attitude of the island.

See the whole island! There are many island tours. We had a great guide. It is such a beautiful place, and different all over the island. To just stay in Waikiki would mean you'd miss a lot of the beauty of Hawaii. Even car rentals aren't bad there, rent a car and see the island. The picture is a view of the road before it disappears into the tunnel through the mountain. Our first trip to Oahu was in 1998 and it was the first time we'd been in such a beautiful place---and our first trip without kids along. Everyone was very friendly. They really do make tourists feel welcome there. This is the first place I went snorkeling, and have been hooked on it every since (not that I get to go often, living in the mid-west!).

Visit the beaches on the other side of the island besides Waikiki. There were a lot of activities going on. I had a delicious teriyaki burger from one of the vendors on the beach. I miss the beautiful scenery and the weather.

Last evening on the town

by b1bob

After supper, Mama wanted to go shopping (I though she'd shot her wad round about New Zealand). It wasn't altogether bad as I found more Hawaii key chains and even cheaper than that afternoon. Mama gave me a t-shirt commemorating the solar eclipse to occur the following morning. Because we were to get up with the chickens, I went to bed straightaway on returning to the hotel, although Mr. Rath came in like gangbusters late that evening.
