Pearl Harbor/Aloha Stadium to HNL airport

by aznaphrodite

We are flying out of Honolulu airport on a Sunday at 8 pm. We plan to visit Pearl Harbor and the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet before heading to the airport. How long do you think it will take to drive from that the Aloha Stadium to the airport on a Sunday afternoon? Google Maps says 7 minutes but that seems pretty fast to me. I've heard to allow time for traffic but do I need to on a Sunday?

Here's the run down of our plans:

?? pm: Leave Aloha Stadium
5:30 pm: Return rental car & take shuttle to airport
6 pm: Arrive at airport for our 8 pm flight back to Dallas

Do you think I'm allowing enough time to return the car and arriving early enough at the airport?

Thanks in advance!

Aloha. If you plan to go on the shuttle in Pearl Harbor to the USS Arizona Memorial, go early. On a Sunday, the tickets could be all gone by noon. You get a time to take the tour to the Memorial. I would park at the Memorial Site, get your time and if more that 3 hours wait, take the free Blue Aloha Stadium & Swap meet bus shuttle. The swap meet closes down at 3pm, so time is the factor to get to Pearl Harbor and the swap meet. The drive to the airport is not that long a drive, only 5 miles and you don't have to take the freeway but on Sunday, traffic could be a little heavy due to many flights in and out, but the car return can be also swift or take up to one hour by the time you check in and take the rental shuttle bus to the gate you are leaving from and then the line up for inspection. If you do leave the Stadium at 3pm, remember that there is even fine dining and shops at the airport. See the following websites:

I forgot that Aloha Swap Meet closes at 3 pm so we would probably leave for the airport at that time. Thanks so much for all the helpful information!!

We took a tour to Pearl Harbor and the tickets were purchased by the tour company as soon as the ticket office opened. We had a 10:00 time - by the time we got to the site, all the tickets for the whole day were gone.

In the airport you will have to go through not only security but also an agriculture inspection. See if you can print out your boarding passes in advance, and then all you will have to do is baggage check and the various security things. Two hours would be the minimum and you might want to eat in the airport as you have to pay for food on the flight - note: no cash - only credit cards.

Travel Tips for Honolulu

Lots of Shopping Areas in Honolulu

by machomikemd

again fun to shop in hawaii due to it's sales tax of 4.71%, a way lower than the mainland sales taxes like 9.25% in california. lots of shopping opportunities here like shopping in the mile long touristy kalakua avenue, the largest outdoor mall in the mall, the ala moana center, the premium outlets of waikele, the International Market Place, the Waikiki Town Center, the hug Ward Centers of Victoria Ward and a lot more. you will see lots of japanese and south korean tourists taking advantage of the difference in price going to hawaii to shop ans since it is just a 7 hour plane ride from japan and 8 hour plane ride from south korea, is cheaper to go to than in the mainland. Alhoa Festival

by percy961

Oahu has some great parades and festivals, we were lucky enough to be there when the "Aloha" festival was taking place.

They shut down one of the main roads for a morning and the following parade was one of colour, music and smiling happy faces.

I would take them to Makaha's beautiful beaches ... very few people at some of them. We did go into Honolulu to watch the Pro Bowl and it was so much fun ... I couldn't believe it! Everyone should go if they ever get the chance.

Go to the USS Arizona...

by JohnNewton

Go to the USS Arizona Memorial. I volunteer as a tour guide there two days a week.
Go to the beaches on the North Shore, they are the best, with the exception of all the beaches. Conde Naste has rated Kailua beach the best in the world. The best part of it all is that they are all free! once you are here The clear air, sunshine, smiling & friendly people.

King Kamehameha Statue

by TropicGirl77

There are just FOUR statues of this King of Hawaii ... two on the Big Island, one in Washington DC, and this one in Honolulu. During King Kamehameha day, June 8th, each year this statue is draped in flower leis.
