The most economical hotel on Oahu

This hotel is very well located in Wakiki.
It costs $40.00 a day for two plus local taxes.
I never stayed there but many people I spoke to have and they liked it well enough to return for months at a time.

Unique Quality: The location is very good and the rooms are similar to most hotel rooms costing 3-4 times as much. It is just doesn't have the latest decorations.

Marc Hawaiian Monarch

Now known as The Castel Hawaiian Monarch Hotel, it overlooks the Ala Wai Canal in Waikiki. The Convention Center is only a short walk along the canal. The Ala Moana Shopping Center, with more than 200 stores and restaurants, is also within walking distance.

The rooms are nicely decorated in a tropical theme and offer views of the Pacific Ocean (from a distance), the Ali WAi canal (right below), or the Koolau Mountains (to the east).

Our room had 1 queen bed, cable TV, A/C, in-room safe, and mini-refrigerators, as well as a nice bathroom. And there was ample free parking in its attached garage.

There is a Denny's right across the street, which was very convenient, as well as a Jack in the Box and bus stops on the corner.

I think it's location may have been a bit of a drawback if we spent more than 1 night there, but it was quite nice for spending our first night there from the mainland ---before heading off to Kauai the next day. It was on the far northern end of Waikiki, somewhat away from all the action. But it's location also made it a good value for our buck.

Unique Quality: The room was a good size and had a little refridgerator and table and chairs in it. It's a tall building. Even though we were on the Honolulu side of the building, the view was still neat.

More about Hawaiian Monarch

Coronation Pavilion

by Nathalie_B

A structure outside the Iolani Palace is not just a lovely terrace; it is actually the coronation pavilion for both Kalakaua and Liliuikalani.
Ironically, King Kalakaua had his official coronation 8 years after he was elected Hawaiian monarch.
It was placed by the palace in 1920, after removing it from its plrevious place where it was facing the King’s street. The King Street got its name at the time of Missionaries’ arrival to the island. While mission houses and the church were built king Kamheamhea used to pass by in his carriage to show his presence to the newcomers.
There’s so much interesting history to this island. 3 weeks weren’t enough to learn it all.

ENJOYING KAPIOLANI PARK

by Onedragon

A FABULOUS PARK TO ENJOY WHICH IS NEXT TO KUHIO AND QUEEN'S BEACHES IN WAIKIKI . ..IS KAPIOLANI....
THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING GOOD HAPPENING THERE..WHETHER PEOPLE ARE PERFORMING AT THE BANDSTAND..OR A SPORTS ACTIVITY IS RUNNING AROUND ON THE HUGE AREA OF GRASS ..OR THERE IS A CONCERT AT THE WAIKIKI SHELL..OR PEOPLE ARE PLAYING BONGOS OUT ON THE LAWN..
THIS IS A GREAT PARK TO CHILL OUT AT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Named after the wife of King David Kalakaua, it all was a marshland full of bird life, lagoons, very small islands & fishponds. King David Kalakaua was the Hawaiian Monarch from 1874 to 1891 and he made land grants available to the people of Hawaii in 1876. A "Kapiolani Park Association" was formed in 1876 to manage the 108-acre park Also located with-in a short walk from Kapiolani Park is the Honolulu Zoo, Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head Crater and the Waikiki Aquarium, Kapiolani Tennis Courts, Diamond Head Tennis Center & including several more sandy beaches located from one end of Kapiolani Park to the other with all kinds of water sports for your enjoyment. You have lots of shopping; fine dining, incredible entertainment with-in a short walking distance of Queen Kapiolani Park.

Accommodation Crisis!

by Jordie

My family and i are heading to Honolulu next April and as there are 6 of us going we are finding it hard to find apartments with two bedrooms or more. Can anyone tell us some names of anything that might accommodate us all! Thanks!

Might try vrbo they have listings of condos in Waikiki plus housing around the island.

Two nice condo buildings in Waikiki which can accomodate 6 persons are: Waikiki Beach Tower at Kuhio Beach and Waikiki Shore near Fort De Russey Park. The Shore is right on the beach and the Beach Tower is just across the street from beach with no building in front. Both are very nice and have spacious units.
Two other condo buildings are: Waikiki Sunset and Waikiki Banyan. They are ok but not as nice as the other two.
Hilton Hawaiian Village rents out their 2 and 3 bedroom condos, also.
The other advice on using vrbo.com is good, because there are other condos located towards Diamond Head in smaller condo buildings available.
Aloha!!!
