All in all a great hotel!
My husband and I and his parents stayed at the Prince Kuhio for four nights, Sept. 13-17, before heading to Kauai for an extended vacation.
We discoverd the Prince Kuhio because a bid on Priceline anchored us there. We could not have been more pleased. Right away, upon checkin, we were upgraded to the 25th floor which gave both of our rooms a fabulous mountain/city view. As we were planning to sightsee the majority of every day, we found the room size to be perfectly sufficient for the few hours we were actually in it. We certainly appreciated how clean it was every day, how impressive the water pressure was, how comfortable the mattress was, and we even had a mini fridge and small wetbar area for morning coffee or evening mai tai's.
The location was perfect for us as we enjoyed the five minute walk to Waikiki which seemed too good to be true. Across the street at another hotel we loved meals served while viewing their two-story saltwater fish tank. And, the breakfast buffet every morning at the Prince completely set the mood and sustained for fun days. The lobby was spacious and not overly furnished, although comfortable and attractive.
We booked some tours with tour desks in the lobby, and could not have been more pleased with the service they provided. The pool is on the 10th floor, outdoors, and when we swam hardly anyone else was there, which surprised us for a hotel of this size. We would definitely stay at the Prince Kuhio again due to its impeccable quality and friendly staff, as well as for its convenient location. A surprising value in a very densely populated city. The Prince gave us the perfect start to a wonderful Hawaiian vacation.
Although a city block from the beach, the Hilton Prince Kuhio serviced us well. The rooms were bright and comfy; the balcony came with a mountain view and our breakfast was included.
The hotel had been recently renovated, so all of the touches had that fresh look to them, with updated decor and sleek bathroom--shower only. Elevators were operated using one's room key, which also gave entry to the breakfast area, fitness rooms and hotel pool.
Shampoos, conditioners, hair dryer, alarm clocks, quilted bathrobes, small fridge, security safe, built in dresser and adequate closet space were amenities we appreciated. I had requested extra pillows, which were generously brought to the room.
The lobby was spacious with many seating areas and concierge desk. A second level travel station was provided from which reservations could be made for various activities.
Hilton's Prince Kuhio was a pleasant home away from home, but if we were to do it over again we would definitely stay at the water's edge. Outstanding service from hotel staff and valet staff
The Prince Kuhio Hotel on Kuhio Avenue is one block away from the beach. A high rise hotel, with prices to match. Ideal if you want a taste of luxury

Our stay was great! This is a great mid priced hotel, just a block (a long one) from the beach. We booked a package deal but our room cost somwhere between $110-140/ night. If you can afford to stay right on the beach with an ocean view, go for it but be prepared to spend $300+/night. But we decided to get an ocean view from a non-beachfront and were not disapointed. We had a corner unit which had decent sized Lshaped lanai with a great view of the ocean and toward Diamond Head. We stayed for a week and never had any problems at all. Check in was a 20 minute or so wait, and everything else amazing. Our view was great ( beware of "ocean view" rooms at other hotels sometimes its just a sliver of ocean and not worth the extra money) The rooms was small, but very bright and clean. Hotel food was good, but restaurant was a little to quiet for us, so we usually sought out more lively and slightly less expensive food. I would recomend this hotel to anyone seeking a great, clean hotel with a helpful and friendly staff. Everything worked great, check in easy, AC cool, staff friendly ect. No complaints! Friends stayed at other nearby hotels and paid more for larger condo type rooms, but we felt we really got the best value and the best view! There is an ABC store accross street, they are everywhere! But it was easy to grab fruit, drinks, sunblock or whatever on your way to the beach. The pool was fine, looked clean, never went in..as we were at the beach most days.
The Prince Kuhio exceeded our expectations. It's located closer to Diamond Head in Waikiki (by the zoo) so there's much less foot traffic and hustle and bustle of other hotels that are in the middle & towards other end of Waikiki but close enough to walk to all that action. Every staff person we interacted with was helpful, friendly and courteous. Our mountain view room on floor 28 was clean and comfortable with a spacious lanai. It was an end unit so the lanai wrapped around affording us a city and partial ocean view. The Bus to Ala Moana, airport, etc. stops in front of the hotel, which is only 1.5 blocks to the beach, and the Kaimuki Trolley stops just a block away. For a great, inexpensive all-you-can-eat breakfast ($5.95), lunch ($6.95) or dinner ($7.95) buffet, Perry's Smorgy is just 2 blocks away on Kuhio, as are tons of other great restaurants and fast food choices.
We booked Prince Kuhio through Expedia. We did not get the "automatic" upgrade like many others were talking about. They gave us a small room on the 5th floor. The room was clearn. The bathroom was very tiny. I liked the shower though. The room had a small lanai looking out the garden, but it was too windy to get outside anyway. We kept our curtains closed because the room can be seen from the condos across the street. On the 4th night, our sink got backed up. They sent the maintenance guy right away and fixed the problem. The parking was easy.
All the staff we met were nice and friendly. Overall, the hotel was ok.
After reading mostly positive reviews on this website, we booked one week at the Radisson Prince Kuhio in early November. Our travel agent upgraded us from mountain view to an ocean view room on the 31st floor for no charge.
Our room was clean, comfortable and in good condition, with a nice ocean view. It was reasonably sized except for the small bathroom. Room service was consistently very good.
Another perk was the daily breakfast buffet included with our package.
We especially enjoyed fresh pineapple and papaya slices, along with standard hot breakfast fare and some Japanese items like white rice, mackeral and pickled sides.
The balcony was an adventure. It was very small, protuding from the side of the building like an afterthought, open on three sides with a waist-high wrought iron rail. After the initial shock of looking 31 floors straight down, I got over it and enjoyed mornings out there watching life go by while doing a crossword or two. I held onto the pencil for dear life though, not wanting to surprise any pedestrians down below. The balcony was regularly visited by a variety of obviously well-fed birds.
The lobby and pool areas were attractive but quiet. This is not a hotel to hang out in while watching the sunset, but there are so many good choices within walking distance, such as the ocean-front promenade, Tiki Bar & Grill at the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel, or Banyan Court at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider. Our daily routine was to hang out along the beach until after sunset, then walk back to our quiet sanctuary a couple blocks away.
I can recommend the Prince Kuhio as a good value for what you get, especially if you're looking for an upscale, quieter hotel that's still close to the beach.
We've just got back from Hawaii and we stayed at the Radisson Prince Kuhio. It's at the quieter end of Kuhion Street and we had the city view room(from which you can also see the ocean which was great). The rooms were clean and tidy and represented very good value for the price. We paid £500($750) for 1 week at the start of September 2003.The hotel is a 100 metre walk from the beach and also has many restaurants and shops nearby. This hotel is just behind the Pacific Beach hotel and the Marriott and they are twice the price!! It's well worth walking 100 metres to the beach to save this kind of money.
I just returned from four days at the Radisson. It was in an excellent location only a few blocks from the beach. This strip of beach was particularly nice in that there was a breaker near the shore so that the water was nice and calm. There was also changing facilities and bathrooms. The best time to go for me was in the early morning before all the crowds. The water was also calmer and more shallow in the morning. If you need some munchies or toiletries, the ABC stores are everywhere, almost two to a block. You can buy drinks, snacks, souvenirs, etc. And don't bring a beach blanket (like I did) because you can buy these cheap bamboo roll-out mats for about $1.20. Make sure you try the Dole Whip ice cream (non-dairy, more like a sorbet) in pineapple at the International Market. The Market also has a pretty good food court. There is another ice cream place there called Dave's which has the best coconut ice cream I have ever had (with real coconut). They have flavors you can only find in Hawaii, like toasted macadamia nut. If you like Spam, this is the Spam capital of the world.
McDonalds serves Spam, rice and eggs for breakfast. At the ABC stores you can buy this stuff called musibi, which is a slice of Spam on top of sushi rice wrapped with a piece of seaweed...Well, back to the hotel, the concierge and the front desk people at the hotel were very helpful. If you have a late flight, you can have your luggage stored.
My only complaint was that the bathroom was really small and sometimes you could smell smoke through the ventilation (even though I had a non-smoking room)...also every evening at about 6:30 pm there is a torch lighting ceremony at Kuhio Park right on the beach which lasts about one hour. They have difference performers each night---a musical group and hula dancers.

My wife and I are planning to take a trip for 2 - 3 weeks in September.Does any members have suggestions for a reasonably priced room in Waikiki. Preferably one with a kitchenso that we can do some cooking.
Thanks in advance.
John.
check vrbo.com (vacation rentals by owner). lasttimei was there, i stayed at the royal hawaiian, which is a condo building. very central, modern suite with kitchen. i don't remember how much it was, but it was a better deal than a hotel.
This is where I stay whenever I'm in Honolulu:

An older (1950s-ish) two story hotel, it's a throwback to a long-lost period of the tourism industry in Hawaii. I believe all of the rooms have kitchettes, mini-fridges, toaster ovens, and dishes/utensils. It's located a half-block from the beach on the leeward side of Waikiki on a quiet street (Beach Walk).
There's another similar hotel next door called the Hawaiiana that you might check out as well.
There are a few more but you do want to be somewhat careful with the names as there are many that sound like they are one in the same. The Royal Grove is a very popular one and the Waikiki Prince ( one of those easily mistaken for another ). The Hawaiian King and the newer tower of the Ocean Resort Hotel all but this one are similar to the two previously mentioned.
Here is an example of some possibly confusing hotel names The Hawaiian Prince, Hilton Prince Kuhio, Honolulu Prince, Waikiki Prince.

Very reasonable for the location (only 2-3 blocks from main Waikiki beach) was comfortable and has two pools. Smaller then the surrounding hotels but for the location and price you can't beat it.
Hello ALL
I am planning a 7-day Hawaii trip, we would like to see the Big Island, Kauai and Maui as well as Oahu. I found out there are day tours for the other 3 islands.
I am not sure where I should book my hotel, I know Waikiki beach is about 4 miles away from downtown. If I stayed on Waikiki beach would i be far away from Oahu Island's attractions? Is Downtown a more convenient location for sightseeing? Given that we can't drive.
I am hopping not to book 2 hotels, I think we will take a day tour then have a day's rest. So it is best we stay in one hotel for the entire trip.
Many thanks
Sally
Much depends on what you want to do and see. If the beach is "the destination" as it is with many people then stay on the beach. If touring is it then, go with what ever is the lowest cost and just do your tour thing. Last time I was there, bus transport was very convenient. Kauai and Maui are probabaly going to be your favorites.
Thank you for your fast reply!
Did you go to Kauai and Maui by tour group? Or you took a flight then drove?
We can't drive so will depend on flights or boat to get there. I am just worried these two islands are too large for us to explore on feet.
And we are two women traveling not sure how safe it is to travel on our own on Kauai and Maui.
Thanks
I found a hotel near Hilton Waikiki Village Resort. The name is Aqua Palms& Spa.
It is a much cheaper hotel compared to Hilton but it is right across the road from Hilton. Since we will be doing loads of sight seeing, I thought we do not need to book into Hilton for the entire 8 nights stay.
Does anyone know I stayed in Aqua Palms& Spa, can I still get access to Hilton's gardens and beach?
Thanks
With everything you are wanting to do you won't be in your hotel very much so you can probably save some money there. The beaches in Hawaii are all open to the public as long as you can get to it. We have done some sightseeing around HHV w/o any problems.
I would say also if you don't have a car Waikiki would be a better choice the Bus is great for around the city and there are trollies for some areas. Most of the tours offer pickup service at your hotel or spots close by.
I will be staying in Honolulu for a couple of days at the start of December this year. I was wondering if anyone can recommend somewhere for me to stay.
Ideally it would be clean, reasonably priced, safe and well located (city centre only). Youth Hostel, Hotel, B&B, anything really.
Also what are the must do activities, keeping in mind i have a limited budget.
I would be extremely grateful for any suggestions.
I remembered staying in a hotel for USD35 in a room with 2 queen size bed two years ago. I cannot remember the name of the hotel, but I booked it at the airport when I arrive. Look for advertisements and pick up the phone provided and call to enquire. The hotel is within walking distance to the beach too.

Hey, have you tried priceline? I got a deal around $50-$60 @ the Radisson Waikiki. Hope this helps!

Q: Oahu Ghost Tours "I keep hearing about Oahu Ghost Tours. Has anyone been on one of their tours? If so, how was it? Was it cheesy? Really spooky?..."
A: "I think my sister-in-law will be taking a ghost tour while on the island during the second week of May next month. I'll post here after I get her feedback."
