Felt Cheated out of "Hawaii" Experience
by jenn5179
I went to Honolulu with my husband for a work event....
We had plenty of free time, however I did not really enjoy my time here.
Honolulu was so commercial, and the main shopping area near our hotel (the Sheraton) was overrun with pigeons.
We did take one nice drive to some remote beach, about 40 minutes out and it was nice and peaceful... but overall, I was not thrilled with my stay here Running into Payton Manning at Alan Wong's Steakhouse my first night there
Singles in Hawaii
by Huncher2
As a general rule....as a single man, I wouldn't expect to hook up with too many Hawaiian women. Most of the women you'll probably talk to are other visitors like yourself. It's tough because most people come there as couples or families, so it's not a good spot for single men. Being able to walk around on the beaches at night without fear of any crime. These are some of the SAFEST beaches you will ever visit!
Definitely rent a convertible...
by IslandGirl10
Definitely rent a convertible and drive around the whole island!! Look at the sky and what it is doing!! I bet I saw 50 rainbows while we were there!! Use sunscreen when you take the car out for sure (we saw quite a FEW burned individuals driving convertibles!!) and stop and enjoy the surroundings. Breathe in the wonderful smells and take in all the beautiful sights! Get up and see a sunrise one morning. The picture that I have attached to this site is a sunrise on Easter Morning 2001! It was a SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:) Meeting my husband at the airport and having him greet me with a flower lei! The airport is
open and is absolutely beautiful! Take in the smell of the leis as you pass the stands! I don't think I will ever forget what Plumeria smells like! ( and no, it doesn't smell anything like the stuff that Bath and Body Works tries to pass off as Plumeria!!!) Also Lanikai Beach is the most awesome beach around!! I am so glad that I took the advice of another member of this site, LanikaiBabe, to go and visit it!:) We are definitely hooked!! It is one of the best beaches on Oahu and certainly one of the calmest!:)
You MUST climb Diamond Head....
by dferreira2
You MUST climb Diamond Head. You get so much in a single trip. There's the geographical formation of the islands (Diamond Head is an extinct volcano crater); history (you have to climb through old military gun emplacements that were set up to protect the island during WWII); nature (the only way to get there is to walk and climb, which brings you closer to the natural wonders of the islands); and last but certainly not least, there's the view (you're rewarded at the top with a spectacular view of the south side of the island from the airport to Koko Head). It's a wonderful experience that will define your trip (and give you a little exercise to boot!). Besides just wandering around Waikiki in the evening, the thing I really miss when I'm away is a special treat at the North Shore. In Haleiwa there is a store called Matsumoto's that has the best shave ice on the island (at least that's MY opinion). I love getting a shave ice and then just walking around this quaint community. This is the most fun in the winter when you can combine it with a visit to some of the North Shore beaches to watch the 10' and 20' waves come in! What a sight!
enjoy the Kodak Hula Show....

enjoy the Kodak Hula Show. Though Kodak is no longer the main sponsor, they still stage a lovely show at 10 a.m. in Iolani Park. Traditional costumes, songs and dances - as well as participation of the audience. Great fun for kids.
